Rising Star Camp coaches performing well in 2008 college season
 | | | Coaches (former campers) Eric Fama & Tom Koehler pitching in 2008 | |
Tommy Koehler (Stonybrook U.) has earned America East Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season already. Coach Koehler has amassed 5 wins and 68 strikeouts in 63 innings as the ace of the Stonybrook staff. Coach Eric Fama (Rhode Island College) has dominated the Little East Conference as his team's closer. Coach Fama ranks among the national leaders in saves and has struck out 26 batters in 17 innings with an ERA below 1.00. Both Coaches Koehler and Fama attended the Rising Star Baseball Camp as campers during summers 1999-2000. Steve Gilman (Yale U.) has dominated Ivy league hitters all season. Coach Gilman gave up three earned runs all season, finishing with an ERA of 1.00. He struck out 27 in 27 innings and tallied five saves. Gilman tied for the team lead with four wins. Alex Christ (Yale U.) had 33 strikeouts in 39 innings and earned eight starts on the mound for the Bulldogs. Coach Jason Kosakow (Winthrop U.) has successfully recovered from Tommy John elbow surgery and is currently pitching for Winthrop U. Congratulations coaches!!!

Coach Kosakow Runs Away With 4th Annual Rib Feast Competition
After losing a close battle in 2006 to Coach Koehler, Coach Jason Kosakow claimed his first ever Rising Star Baseball Camp rib eating contest championship on Monday, August 13, 2007. Although Coaches Raftery and Matos put pressure on him early, Coach Kosakow pulled away as the evening progressed. A late surge by Coach Gurney was not enough to challenge the ravenous Coach Kosakow. Coach Chris Lopez, the underdog who went off at 65:1 odds, did not finish even 1 rib as his airplane mysteriously did not arrive in time for the competition. Congratulations Coach Kosakow!!!

Coach Koehler Puts On Show At 2006 Annual Staff Rib Feast Dinner
Coach Tom Koehler captured his first Rib-Feast title on Thursday,
August 10th at Wellington's in Harrison, NY. Despite being challenged
by coach Kosakow and Matos for most of the night, Coach Koehler impressively
displayed speed, savagery, and an overall disregard for cleanliness/appearance.
After downing a cup and a half of soup, a dinner salad, rack of ribs with baked
potato and fried onions, Coach Koehler finished off Coach Tirado's remaining ribs.
In toasting his glorious evening, Koehler then put away an apple pie alamode.
Coach Kosakow was neck and neck with Coach Koehler until a 37 minute bathroom
visit cost him the title. Another contender, Coach Jason Matos, fell back
when he could not put away the skin from his baked potato. Among the evening's
disappointments were Coach Balliet who trained for days for the event only to
put in a poor showing, while claiming the style of the ribs were not ones he was
accustomed to eating. Coach Lopez threw the towel in early and for some reason
was not ashamed of getting a doggie bag. Congratulations to Coach Koehler!!!

impressive performance of downing 18 ribs, sides of : mashed potatoes,

Camp judge Kevin Raftery is handling the appeal of Coach Jason Matos who
protested the heroic performance because of two suspicous disappearances by
Coach Noble in the middle of the Rib-Feast. The French judge (Coach Balliet)
could not be reached for comment, but has a history of turning down such appeals.
Great job and congratulations Coach Noble!!!
