New Longview Sea Stallions: Practice Schedule
Our first team practice will be Wednesday, May 31. In order to accommodate all our swimmers, we have split the team into two separate practices by age group. Safety is our primary concern in addition to providing adequate coaching opportunities for all swimmers.
Practice Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m.- All 10 and younger
*9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.- All 11 and older
5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.-Monday and Tuesday all ages. If you foresee a regular schedule conflict and your swimmer will not be able to attend regular morning practices, please email Coach Adam. Otherwise, the evening practice is on an as-needed basis and swimmers MUST SIGN UP via email to the coaches. (email: email@example.com.) We will only have one coach available and limited lane space. Evening practices begin on Monday, June 5!
Thursday = Fun Day! Same practice times 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Meet review, ribbons, donuts asnd games!
*Please let the coach know if your child is unable to attend the 8:00 a.m. practice and can only attend the 9:00 a.m. practice. Different age groups require different coaching and our coaches need to prepare for any 10 and younger swimmer in the 9:00 a.m. practice. We ask parents only request this change if there is a schedule conflict. We are looking for volunteers to assist in our 8:00 a.m. practice.
If you know of any high school aged child looking for volunteer work, please let us know!
On Thursdays, coaches will review the meet, discuss disqualifications (DQs), hand out ribbons and play games. Just a few notes on DQs and ribbons: 1) everyone DQs at one time or another so please talk with your kids (as our coaches will!) that this is common and we simply need to learn from it and 2) ribbons are handed out to swimmers who have the six fastest times overall, not just in the heat. This will make more sense once families watch the meet. We can have three heats of the same event/age group. However, the top six times overall receive ribbons. If a swimmer wins their heat (but not necessarily the fastest time) they will receive a ribbon for winning that heat.
Parents are welcome to attend practice, especially in the first few weeks and if you have younger ones. However, we do ask you remain cognizant of the area the swimmers will be using for stretching, training, etc. In our coaching experience, we find children engage more with the team if their parents are not within direct eyesight. :)
Swimmers only need a suit, goggles, a swim cap (if using one) and a towel for practice. We recommend training/racing suits for practice as they do not cause a lot of "drag" in the water and stay in place! We also recommend shoes/sandles and dry clothes for after practice, especially in the first few weeks! If you did buy a team suit, we recommend wearing it only for meets and on picture day, Thursday, June 2. This will extend the life of the suit.
All swimmers receive a team shirt and one swim cap. Shirts will be distributed to every swimmer at the first practice as well as a swim cap (if you did not already receive one at registration night). If you need additional caps, they are $2 each and can be purchased from our coaches at practice and meets.
