Game By Game write ups from JV Bears Basketball games.

Game 1:  Belmont 45  - Newfound 37

 In a back and forth game, both teams showed signs of first game jitters with Belmont out lasting the host Bears.  Newfound lacked leadership on the court as they found themselves down by double digits midway through the third period.  The Bears were able to claw back to within 6 points late in the fourth but failed to overcome their mistakes made previously in the game.  Playing well in their first game of the year were Zach Seaverns with 14 points and Ryan O'Connor with 9 points.

 

Game 2:  Newfound 54 - Interlakes 49

 In another back and forth game, Ryan O'Connor hit a big 3 pointer late in the fourth quarter to break a 47-47 tie and help the Bears to their first victory of the season.  Newfound got great contributions from Zach Seaverns (14 points) and Ryan O'Connor (6 points).  Others that played well offensively and defensively were Matt Haskell, Steven Guyotte, and Ben Doucette.

 The Bears evened their record at 1-1 on the season.

 

Game 3:  Newfound 40 - Winnisquam 36

 In the battle of the Bears - it was Newfound's Bears that outlasted the home Winnisquam Bears.  Newfound maintained a solid lead throughout the game, allowing Winnisquam to come within 4 or 5 on a number of occassion, but strong games from Ryan O'Connor (15 points) and Zach Seaverns (11 points) allowed Newfound to improve to 2-1 on the young season.

 

Game 4:  Raymond 60 - Newfound 30

 The Rams doubled up on the travel weary Bears in the last game before CHristmas break.  Newfound played out of rhythem all night as they trailed at teh end of every quater.  Dylan Hall lead the Bears with 8 points and Zach Seaverns scored 7 in the loss.  The Bears now stand at 2-2 on the season.

 

Game 5:  Newfound 57 - Somersworth 55

The Bears erased a 9 point second half deficit and Ryan O'Connor hit the game winning 15 foot jump shot as the buzzer sounded to pull out the exciting win at home.  Dylan Hall lead the charge back in the second half with a couple of clutch three point baskets and Zach Seaverns provided the scoring and power inside.  The young Bears improved their record to 3-2 and now face area rival Franklin on Tuesday.

 

Game 6:  Franklin 55 - Newfound 53

 The JV Bears team came beck from 9 points down mid way through the third quarter after a sloppy first half.  The Bears comeback was lead by Zach Sevearns and Ryan O'Connor oofensively with total team effort on the defensive side.  The Bears had a chance to tie the game with no time left on teh clock, but the first of two free throws fell short of the mark and the game ended.  

 The Bears dropped to 3-3 on the season.

 

Game 7:  Newfound 49 - White Mtns 48

One game after the Bears dropped a game at teh free throw line, they showed resileincy and made their free throws down the strech to overcome a very poorly played third quarter.  The Bears lead 26-18 at teh half, but allowed White Mtns to outscore them 24-6 in the third quarter to take what looked to be a comanding 10 point lead.  Zach Sevearns made 9-12 free throws in the final frame however to bring the Bears back for the victory.

The JV Bears improved their record to 4-3 on the season.
