Judson P. Galloway Post 152
The Judson P. Galloway Post#152 has sponsored an American Legion Baseball team since the late 1920's. Since 1963 the team has been known as the Newburgh Nuclears. The Nukes, as they are known, have been a powerhouse in the Hudson Valley as well as in New York State and much of the Northeast.
The Senior Nuclears (19u) were crowned 9th district champs in 1963, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1999, 2004, and 2005; while wining State Championships in 1963, 2000 and 2004.
In 2003 the Senior Nuclears hosted the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament at Delano Hitch Stadium, where they defeated the New York State Champion and finished second to Hadden Heights NJ in the tournament. In addition to their 2nd place finish in 2003, the Nukes finished 2nd in 1983, and 5th in the region in 1963, 2000, and 2004.
In 2006, the Senior Nuclears hosted to the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship once again. The winner, (one of the top 8 in the country), went on to the annual Legion Baseball World Series held August.
In addition to the senior nukes, in 2000, the program added a Junior Nuclear (16u) Team and in 2001 started a Rookie Nuclear (14u) team as well. Both teams were extremely successful in their premiers. However, in 2003, it was decided that the rookie team would be discontinued and the players would be picked up by the other 2 teams.
