Marcus Carney - Marcus won the 120kg bronze medal at the Africa-Oceania Olympic Qualifying tournament in Marrakech, Morocco.

Welcome to the site of the Dilworth Grizzlies Wrestling Club in Auckland, New Zealand.

The club was initially founded in 1997 in order to further the development of the boys of Dilworth School in Olympic freestyle wrestling by allowing them to compete in the New Zealand club wrestling scene.

Membership was opened up to the wider community, from 11 year-olds to adults, both male and female.

The founding committee was comprised of Iain Adamson, Margaret Roxburgh, Merilyn Speechlay and Brian Yakas. All were formerly linked with the Kelston Olympic Wrestling Club, which split amicably to form the Dilworth Grizzlies and City of Sails Wrestling Clubs.


The boys from the school have gained benefit from the more experienced wrestlers from outside and from the wider range of coaching available.

Now the club offers instruction in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, gives assistance to grapplers, and feels privileged to have a friendly and international membership, keen to develop our sport in this remote corner of the globe.

Recently or currently training in our gym have been/are wrestlers or coaches originally from Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Romania, Samoa, South Africa, UK, Ukraine, USA and primarily, of course, from New Zealand.

Overseas visitors and new residents are especially welcome.
