Umpires who are just starting out should check with their Sectional or District Chairman to find out what uniform they will need.  Some sections and/or districts have new umpires wear a light or dark blue shirt, or have the USTA official umpire shirt available for loaners.  Standard uniform for all umpires include having khaki-colored slacks and/or shorts, white socks and white sneakers. 
 
Umpires with a Sectional Umpire level certification or higher are responsible for purchasing their own uniform.  The basic approved USTA certified umpire uniform is a USTA official umpire’s shirt, khaki pants or shorts, a khaki belt, USTA hat, plain white socks, and white sneakers.   Information on placing clothing orders with the official USTA umpire clothing supplier can be obtained from your Sectional Chairman or the USTA umpire web page at www.usta.com.

The majority of USTA certified umpires are needed to officiate at Sectional tournaments, USTA tournaments and at the Collegiate level.  We have less than 10% of the approximately 3,000 USTA certified umpires who regularly officiate at Professional Tournaments.  USTA certified umpires are considered self-contractors.  It is up to the individual umpire to determine which path, or paths to pursue for their own personal satisfaction.

USTA Officials Apparel Program

The USTA has created a new USTA logo and a newly designed National Shirt for USTA Officials.  We have teamed with new supplier – Honig’s Whistle Stop, Inc of Ann Arbor, Michigan…the largest and best of the sports officiating supply companies. We have launched a new program with Honig’s for Officials to purchase the new shirt along with other top quality garments at competitive prices.  In addition, Honig’s will supply all Officials who purchase a  new shirt  with patches featuring the new logo for you to patch existing apparel that you may already own --  in order to help to minimize your costs.
