SAY Volunteer Screening Program – Choice Point

To:                        All SAY Area Presidents

                             All SAY District Presidents

                             ALL SAY Volunteer Screening Coordinators

From:                    Sheila Shay- Mole

                             National Executive Director

Re:                        SAY Volunteer Screening Program – Choice Point

As an ongoing effort to respond to our membership needs, the SAY Volunteer Screening Committee has developed a new partnership with Choice Point and their Volunteer Select Program for the background checks on the SAY coaches/volunteers. A new feature has streamlined this process to enable online entry of information directly to a Volunteer Select Plus/ SAY branded website. This will allow you to direct coaches and volunteers  to the website to enter their information and you will receive the information back to you electronically. This will NOT take the place of the SAY Volunteer Screening application you are currently using, it will be the vehicle in which the background checks are performed.

We have been working diligently to set up accounts with Choice Point under each Area and District contact information. We used the contact information you have provided to us via your board lists to create the account set-up. We have now come to the final phase of set up and this requires action from you. Please see the attached form which needs to be filled out and faxed directly to Choice Point to activate your account. There is no charge for your account set-up. For Each background check you direct your coaches to implement there will be a charge $5.50 per check. This is a DRASTIC reduction from our previous partner which was $25.00 per background check.

I have pulled some information and directions from our partners at Choice point to help you complete the form:

The second step in the Choice Point account setup process is the new account credentialing process.  This validates the information on the account as well as validates the intended use of each account.  The attached form is required by the FTC due to the sensitive nature of data that may be accessed with an account from Choice Point.  The form must be completed and faxed back to Choice Point to complete account setup.

Choice Point is unable to provide specific answers as to how the form should be filled out but can offer the following guidelines for SAY Soccer programs.

- #1 “Nature of business” should be something like a youth athletic organization or youth soccer team. This line is intended for a description of your organization.

- #2 The appropriate “Use” checkbox should be selected.  Please keep in mind that Volunteer Select PLUS may only be used to screen employees or volunteers of a nonprofit organization. Under the terms of the FCRA, Volunteer Select PLUS may not be used to make any decisions related to housing applications.  All consumers screened using Volunteer Select PLUS must provide written consent to their league official prior to the search being conducted.

- The Company Name should reflect the Area or Area//District Combination

- The Name, Signature, Date and Title must be provided.

- All forms may be faxed to 678-893-9600, Attn Ryan Jansich.

SAY coaches/league officials can direct questions about this process (FTC form/credentialing) to 866-837-8661.  Please note that only credentialing questions should be directed to this number.

After the form is received and all information is validated, a username and password and welcome email will be sent directly to the primary contact on the account.

Please feel free to call me with any questions.

Best Regards,

SAY AGM Report
NEPSAY had six representatives attend the 2007 SAY AGM in Cincinnatti on March 30 and 31, 2007: Andres Aparicio, Jack Cardamone, Frank Cardamone, Ed Sosik, Lou Tempesta, and Larry Hickernell. Congratulations are in order for Frank Cardamone and Andres Aparicio who have been successfully upgraded to SAY State Referees.

Lou Tempesta, already a National Board of Directors member, has been joined on the board by Larry Hickernell representing Region 4. Along with Jeff Wander, SAY President from Honesdale, this brings our area's representation to an amazing 3 members sitting on a board of 13!

Here's a photo of the attendees at the banquet on Saturday night.

As well as having a great time meeting with representatives from other SAY districts (including Roland Bedard one of the founding fathers of SAY), the attendees have brought back a wealth of information for coaches and administrators.
