 16u Gold

NE 16U Gold participated in the PGF Qualifier:

NE 16U Gold competed in the Nor Cal PGF qualifier this weekend.  Unfortunately PGF just wasn't meant to be for us this year.  I believe we had the shortest and longest games of the entire tourney.
Our first game was against Rocklin Hype...mercied them in 50 minutes...probably the quickest game of the tourney.  Next up, Lady Sharks.  They did an excellent job mixing it up...hit hard, slapped and lots of small ball.  We had to make some changes early on in the game to combat it but just weren't able to turn it back around.  Lost 4-0.
Saturday we were back at it and ready to take on Fresno Force.  Team warmed up very well only to find out the game prior was running a little late.  It wasn't a problem until that game went into ITB...a few times.  We ended up starting 1 hr and 30 mins late.  Our game was 0-0 until the 6th inning.  We put 1 run on the board in the 6th and they tied it up in the 7th.  We hit the ball but couldn't seem to line up the hits to score.  ITB here we come.  We finally lost after 3 hours of play in the 12th inning.  What a bummer.

Even though we did not qualify for PGF, I am very proud of the girls.  They fight hard, stay energized and never give up.  You simply can't ask for anything more.  Next up for us is Champion's Cup.  Then on to ASA Nationals :)

16u Blue

16U Blue participated in friendlies hosted by Wicked/Firecrackers at Cal High.

First game of the day versus SoCal Choppers started off good but errors of judgment by our outfield cost us and gave away our lead.  Poor judgment at the plate did not help us stay in the game.

Second game was very competitive vs. a PGF bound Cal Cruisers team. Our team stepped up to the challenge but did not capitalize on our scoring opportunities. Two missed plays lead to two unearned runs and Cal Cruisers held on for the win.

Cal Cruisers 2

The third game had us come out of our offensive slump. We scored 9 runs and had three different girls hit home runs. Better judgment in pitches lead to better results for our hitters as evidence of our score.

The teamed played well enough to earn a No 1 Seed on Sunday by beating TNL and A Cut Above on Saturday, while losing to the Raiders on a poor output in the circle.  Offensively and Defensively the team fired on all cylinders Saturday with Loren "Red" hitting multiple home runs, and Myah pitching a No Hitter Against A Cut Above with a 2 Hitter in 4 Innings of work against TNL.  The defense as a whole committed 3 errors on the day, and sticks were pretty solid going to a reduced line-up.  Going into Sunday we were very confident since we had a late game  and with a favorable schedule.  Sunday came around, and boy what a difference a night makes.  The team was held to 1 hit in 5 innings of work against Conkoktion.  We batted around the reduced line-up with out a single hit, and had 3 base runners in the outing.  The pitcher was throwing about 40 mph, and no one was able to adjust to the slow speed.  Myah gave up 2 bombs, and Kassy 1 which accounted for all of the scoring.  The lack of production from the offense was the surprise of the day, and every adjustment we made proved not be effective in combating the slow speed.  Down 3 in the third, we went small and scratched out a run, but a 2 run HR allowed in the following inning just proved to be too much to overcome.

This weeks focus will be footwork, judgment, and the importance of the first step.  As a staff we will be more focused on these areas, while the Dad's will take over more of the hitting of the balls.  We will be also looking to see who will be a leader on this team.  We do not assign Captains, but are looking for players who will hold each other accountable, and lead by example.  Through the last 5 weeks the team has showed they can beat the best, and loose to the worst.  We are searching for consistency, as most coaches are, and are still waiting for the team to perform to its potential all the time.

The team felt like they played their best against the better competition, but sort of let up against the team(s) that wasn’t as strong. This CO team mostly consists of players from the NE14u Blue squad, with great additions from the 12u Gold team and the 16u Blue team. This CO team has great balance and can fill in all areas of the game… exciting times are truly ahead! games as they get ready for the upcoming championship season.  First, the Colorado 14u Jr. Sparkler Team participated in a 3-way friendlies on Saturday in Artesia Park. On Sunday, the NE 14u Blue squad traveled to Santa Ana to play in 3 great friendlies against

some great competition.  These ladies are peaking at the right moment and are fine-tuning

their games as the hitting seems to be better, as well as the defense.  Our pitchers Jocelyn

Hernandez and Destiny Cerda are doing an awesome job leading the defense.  And we can't

forget Andrea Gonzales with the 2 run homerun yesterday...awesome hit.

The team played at Discovery this weekend in a Nemesis Elite Friendly hosted by the 12u Gold team. The team was off to a slow start hitting only 3 hits and not scoring any runs on top of several careless errors in the first game. Coaches Memo and Courtney re-grouped the girls and had a good talk with them. We slowly picked up momentum as the day went on coming back to win our second and third games. In the end the team had a total of 17 combined hits, and 12 combined runs. Our pitchers had a total of 8 strikeouts and are slowly decreasing the walk count at 4 this weekend.
Player of the week: Brianna, for having 2 RBI’s on a triple in 3rd game but also getting another RBI on a single in the same game. Keep “Banging” Brianna!
