~Keep up with the News...the NE NEws~

High School Teams

This was "Welcome Back Weekend" for the HS division.  Four teams (16uB, 18uG, 18uB and 18uG participated in a jam packed weekend of hard work and fun.  Started off Saturday morning with conditioning by the Nike training staff followed by a college workshop.  The girls then got to enjoy a yummy BBQ of healthy protein and fruit.  Then it was back to work with a technical workshop lead by our 18U Gold team and then on to team practices.  Long day but tons of information was passed on.
On Sunday we mixed all the HS players and formed 4 new teams to play against each other.  The girls were thrown back into travel mode by playing 3 games in a row that were 1hr 45min DD or 7 innings, whichever came first.  So it was a drastic change from their HS schedules.  They all handled is very well.

18u Gold heads to Arizona to participate in PGF
18u Blue Host Friendlies at Discovery
16u Gold and 16u Blue will participate in ASA Intensity National Qualifier in La Habra

The team played well enough to earn the first place seed in their pool play by scoring enough runs, but couldn’t garner a win in bracket play. NE 14u Blue finished the weekend with a 1-3 record.

The first pool play game was a 6-2 loss versus Rebellion, as the team left runners in scoring position. Our pitching struggled a little bit on this game but the defense helped hold the opposing team to only six runs. NE 14u Blue hit better in their second pool play game, defeating the OC Batbusters 8-3. Jocelyn Hernandez pitched the entire game, even after suffering a bruised rib from a line drive hit. Way to fight through!
The first bracket play was a 6-5 defeat against Konkoction, where the team struggled on the offensive end again. But the team continued to fight, scoring all 5 runs in the final inning, and just couldn’t get the tying run in with runners on 2nd and 3rd base. The last game of the tournament came at the hands of Kaboombah with a 3-2 loss, with errors ultimately causing the team to get eliminated. Erin Alvarado had a chance to tie the game with a monster hit to right field, but got tagged out at home. Good effort and great hit by Erin!

12U Blue played in the 2013 10U & 12U "A" ASA So Cal State in Lancaster Memorial Weekend.
The 12u Blue Team played their best games to date this weekend. In the 3 games played; the team had a combined total of 23 hits with 12 runs scored, and only 5 combined errors.
In the first game the girls were all hitting. There were numerous QAB’s, from Brianna's 3 RBI hit on a double, Emilie, AC and Haylee all putting the bunts downs advancing runners on base. The girls also displayed patience at bat such as Morgan getting an RBI on a walk and by Bailey and Joleen also getting RBI’s. Daisy pitched 3 good innings having 3 strikeouts and only 1 walk and AC finished the game with strikeouts and no walks.
The second game was much different not sure what happened to the girls during the break there were only 4 hits the whole game and not one run. Daisy, AC and Emilie all pitched in this game and has a combined total of 3 strikeouts and a total of 2 walks.

Third game was definitely the heartbreaker for the girls. They faced a team that was equal to them as by the end of the 6th inning it was a tie score of 2 to 2. It was the first time that the girls would go into International Tie Breaker. A couple of base hits and 2 pass balls later the other team scored 4 runs.
Defensive play of the weekend: In the 1st game in the 2nd inning a ball was hit out towards center field Haylee aka “lil Bit” caught the ball quickly threw the ball to her cut our short stop Lani, who then threw the ball to AC at third (for a great relay). AC without hesitation tagged the runner just before reaching base and quickly threw the ball to Mia at second for the double play. It was AMAZING to see the girls playing smart, and reacting quickly.
Player(s) of the week: Such a tough call as ALL the girls deserved to be named as they left it all on the ball field. However Daisy pitched a combined total of 14 innings the most she has pitched in a weekend to date and she did an amazing job!
