PhotobucketSoftball everywhere...

On Sunday, September 9, 2012, the Nemesis Elite teams returned to the fields.

Good to see 4 of the 7 Nemesis Elite teams return to the field this past weekend to start the fall 2012 game schedule.  Here is a summary of the weekend's action:

18u Gold
NE18uG9.9.12
The 18u Gold squad participated in the Wicked/Firecrackers kick-off invitational in La Habra with games on Saturday and Sunday evening. (won 4 games and tied 1).

~A BIG thank you to the NE mgrs/coaches/players and parents that came out to support the 18u Gold squad on Saturday evening.~

Supported by the Nemesis leather and catchers Crystal and Leilani, the pitching combination of Janel, Koreen and Ky allowed a total of 3 earned runs in 5 games.  At the "dish" the Nemesis Greek Goddesses were strong with quality at-bats.  Leading the way offensively was Taylor putting together a string of 13 for 13 quality at-bats.  Kam's 230ft shot over center field vs Firecrackers Snyder and Bree's 2-run "go-ahead" double vs Firecrackers Araujo were the offensive highlights.  Defensively Cassie's diving stab over-the-middle at 2b to save 2 runs made the reel and if excellence is making difficult things look easy...then Nadia was very boring in left field making difficult plays look routine.

Player of The Week: Although injured and unable to play, Joanna attended every team activity in support of her team.

The 18u Gold dougout was energized all weekend by the presence of guest players from the 12u and 14u teams....and 4 of the 6 players actually played.  Big thanks to DJ, Kiki, Big C, Em, CJ and Yoshi.

The 18u Gold squad next heads to Stockton for the Running Rebels "Fall Showcase of Talent" 9/15-16/12.

18u Blue
The team hosted an 8-way friendly at Discovery (won 1 lost 2).

Game 1 vs Riptide Gold: Ellie Ponce was given the start and was very effective through 5 innings. She seemed to get stronger the more she threw.  Jessica Martinez did a great job behind the plate. The hitting was lead by Cara Hylland (2-2 ) 2 RBI's with a double over the center fielders head for a 3-1 lead. Bianca Espinoza who also went 2-2 and collected 2 RBI's, driving in Rocky Narzagaray who lead off the game with a triple. Two errors cost Nemesis in the 3rd with two outs that lead to 5 runs for Riptide that gave them a 7-5 victory.

Game 2 vs Athletics: Maren Walder was given the start, she had trouble in the first inning not hitting her spots and walked a couple of batters. She settled down after the first and did a better job getting through the 2nd & 3rd. Nemesis had trouble adjusting to the slower pitching and only accounted for one run. Rocky lead off with a walk stole second base and ended up scoring on a Bianca single. The main highlight was the  team play of Maren who laid down 2 sacrifice bunts. American Athletics 7-1

Game 3
vs Team Easton: Ellie was given the start again went all 6 innings gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 KO's. Rocky lead off with a single, a Maren sac bunt and a Bianca single up the middle for a run. In the 3rd, with 2 outs Maren tripled and Sammie Saucedo double for next two Nemesis runs. Sammie drove in two more runs in the 5th. Cara (2-3) and Bianca (1-3) hit consistent through the day.

The parents did a great job preparing the fields and running the snack shack. Still getting to know each other. Charolette and Ileidis did a great job cleaning up the snack shack, and special thanks to Derek Wallace for helping with clean up.
The team is off this weekend 9/15-16.

Nice job by the team Dads getting Apollo Park ready for games on Sunday.

With a strong core of returning players the team evaluated the new members of the team under game situations.  It was noted by team coaches that new players have to work on the quality of their plate appearances.  Team tried out 3 pitchers for the first time and is looking to form a strong pitching core.
