The History of the Nebraska Wildcats

The Nebraska Wildcats were formed for the 2002 season as a the brainchild of Edgar E. Mace Jr. and his Father.  The team was created because of the unfair practices that were being used by the established semi-pro teams in the area.  The Wildcats wanted to create a situation that would allow players who were dedicated and actually attended the team practices to be able to play in the games and compete.

The Wildcats started off in the now defunct-ed Nebraska Indoor Football League.  The Cats started  the new season with a bang by defeating their first opponent the Lincoln Pirates.  however the rest of the season did not go as well, the Wildcats ended up with only one win for the season.

The Second season was in the Lincoln indoor football league.  The Wildcats withstood a great many obstacles during the season both on and off the field, but managed to finish in the Championship game against the Lincoln Gladiators only to loose in the final seconds.

The third season was spent as a independent team playing games where ever  they could be found. The Wildcats were in a building mode and played teams from all over the Midwest with the most notable one being the Missouri Minutemen from the American Professional Football league.

The Wildcats fourth season was played as a road team for the APFL.  Due in part to a lack of venue and lack of sponsorships, the Wildcats had a very disappointing season.

The Wildcats, after taking a year off from play joined the North American Football League in 2008.  The Wildcats played a 10 game season and wound up in the playoffs.  The Cat's were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round.  The first season for the Wildcats in the NAFL was a turbulent one.  The Cats had thoughts and in fact left the league for a short period.  But after finding out that everyone else it trying to do what the NAFL is doing then they returned to the league.

The Wildcats will enter the 2009 season apart of the NAFL and hope that the mistakes made by both the league and the Wildcats will be corrected and that they will have a long relationship with the league.  We are dedicated to providing our fans with top level sports entertainment and to give our athlete's a chance to improve their skills in order to move to the next level or just to be able to play for the love of the game.
