The Coxswain Café - Coxswain Handbook - 3rd Ed

From: http://coxswaincafe.com/ - "In the sport of rowing, the coxswain is the individual responsible for the steering of the shell and also gives commands to the rowers in order to facilitate the safe and efficient operation of the crew as a unit. The coxswain is the leader of the crew while on the water. Some rowing programs also traditionally extend the coxswain’s leadership roles to include operations off the water.

The coxswain is an integral part of the crew. The coxswain can have a large effect on the success of his crew. Unprepared coxswains have played a large part in many races lost, and on the contrary, races can and have been won with the help of well-prepared ones."

More Handouts:
  • Risk Management & Waivers - Although all practically possible safety precautions are exercised, since it happens on the water, rowing involves a certain degree of risk. This waiver created by USRowing reminds each participant that he/she is responsible for his/her own safety and for the safety of others taking part in any rowing related activity.
