The Board of Directors of National City Girls Softball League hopes everyone enjoyed a great holiday and are getting into the swing of 2012. We are already at work making plans for the 2012 Summer Season. We are looking forward to another great year and can't way to get things underway.

We will be sending out notices to our returning players in the next few weeks and will begin accepting registrations shortly thereafter. So keep an eye on your mailboxes. We'll upload sign-up and player assessment dates shortly.

Division Reorganization

National City Girls Softball League has plans in place to reorganize its age divisions. Under the plan, the current system of three 4-year age divisions would be replaced with four 3-year division. This change will allow all of our players to compete with players closer to their own ages.

Our current age Divisions are Minors (6-9 year olds), Majors (10-13 year olds) and Seniors ( 14-17 year olds).  While these age groupings have served us well in the past, we believe that the youngest players in each division are at a distinct disadvantage when playing with and competing against girls three years older. For instance, 6 year olds playing with 9 year olds.

The proposed revised divisions would be Minis (6-8 years), Minors (9-11 years), Majors (12- 14 years) and Seniors (15-18 years).  We understand that this will result in fewer teams in each division. But we believe that the teams will be more competitively balanced.

As in the past, we would allow players to tryout for assignment to an upper age division. And players who played in an upper division last season but would now be in a lower division, will have the option of remaining in the upper division if they so choose. For instance, an 11 year old who played on a  Major Division team last year, would have the option of remaining in the Major Division or playing in the Minor Division.

We are still working out the details as to which playing rules will be used in the Mini and Minor Divisions, such as pitching, drop third strike and stealing bases. We will publish those rules as soon as they are finalized.
