  History

History (1993-1999)
The Dominators are an ASA, USSSA, Pony, and NSA sanctioned girls traveling tournament fastpitch softball team. The 1999 season was the most successful yet as the 18U team posted a 25 - 12 - 1 record. Highlights included perfect records in the Carolina Cardinal Classic and the Virginia Beach Grand Slam and going 8 - 1 - 1 in the last two tournaments. The Dominator organization added two teams this season. The 10U team won the North Carolina USSSA National Invitational while the 16U team played in eight tournaments and posted a winning record. The 18U's lose 5 college-bound seniors from the 99 squad so there will be important slots to fill for 2000. Plans for next year include the addition of 12U and 14U Dominator teams. Interested players, coaches and parents in all age groups should contact Coach Davis for more information. During the 1998 summer season The Dominators played 60 games in 11 tournaments in three southeastern states finishing with a 35 - 23 - 2 record. Season highlights include winning the Wilmington, NC ASA Regional Qualifier, going undefeated to take first place in the Virginia Beach Grand Slam, and surviving a rainy three hour championship game to win the ASA East Coast Championship Tournament to close the season. Other 1998 highlights included shutout victories over rivals Orion Hunter and the NC Challengers. During the 1997 summer season The Dominators played 55 games in 11 tournaments in four southeastern states finishing with a 29 - 26 record. Coached by former University of North Carolina Coach and pitcher Yvette Davis, the Durham, NC based team made the jump to the 18 and under age group for the 1997 season. The team began the tournament schedule untested in 18 and under play and somewhat intimidated by the more experienced out-of-state teams they faced. But by the time of the East Coast Championship in late August, The Dominators were confident they could compete successfully. And they did, winning 8 of their last 11 games. Two of the losses were by one run in the semi-finals to the eventual tournament champions. Coach Davis was pleasantly surprised by her young team's progress. The players are a diverse group representing high schools in The Triangle, Burlington, Winston-Salem, and Whippany, New Jersey areas. All players are standouts on their high school softball teams and they excel in other sports and in academics as well. Although sometimes school rivals during the interscholastic season, The Dominators are united by the team philosophy of Coach Y: "PMA 'Positive Mental Attitude,' basic fundamentals, unity, patience and fun wins ball games. The rest is just for show."

Sponsored by Triangle Trailer Rentals, The Dominators began play in 1993 as a 12 and under traveling slow pitch team. They made their mark that first season with a 35-18 record and two USSSA National Invitational Tournament wins.

1994 saw the team move up to 14 and under slow pitch highlighted by a USSSA North Carolina State Championship and a 46-20 record.

1995 marked the last Dominator slow pitch competition with a 61-14 record including four USSSA NIT wins. The team placed ninth in the ASA World Championship, fifth in the NSA World Championship, third in the USSSA World Championship and finished the season ranked Number One in the USSSA 14 under power rankings.

1996 was a year of change for girls softball in North Carolina as most high school and middle school leagues switched from slow pitch to fastpitch. The Dominators changed to fastpitch for the tournament season and played in the 16 and under age group. The team record was 19-9 and tournament victories included the ASA 16 and under North Carolina State Championship. They never lost to a North Carolina 16 and under team and also won games with out of state 16 and under and 18 and under teams.
