The Angels answered in the bottom of the second inning with 5 runs to take a 5-1 lead as Jacob Souza came up with the bases loaded, and his hit to center field cleared the bases! GBC cut the lead to 5-3 after 4 innings, but the Angels respond with 2 in the bottom of the 5th to go up 7-3. Will Sprinkle and Brandon Bailey drive in the Angels 2 runs in the 5th. The Angels break the game open by scoring 3 in the 5th, and 4 in the 6th. On defense, the Angels turned 2 double plays, one in the 2nd inning with runners on 1st and 3rd, which kept the shutout intact, and another in the 4th. GAME 5: 11:30am, Angels 10, Fuquay Varina Predators, NC, 0.

The Angels played their final game of pool play by getting off to a great start against Fuquay Varina. In the bottom of the first, Brandon Lankford comes up with two runners on base. BRANDON LANKFORD CRANKS ONE OUT OF THE PARK (200ft fence), FOR A 3-RUN HOMER! The Angels never looked back and made "every play" the entire game on defense. Leading hitters for the Angels were: Brandon Lankford, 2-2 with a HR and 4 RBI's, Davis O'Brien 2-2, Jalen Scott 2-2, Will Sprinkle 1-2 with 2 RBI's, Brandon Bailey 1-2 with 1 RBI and Gavin Tippett 1-2 with 1 RBI.

-----------
DAY 3, WEDNESDAY July 18th, BRACKET PLAY RESULTS (If you lose now, you have no shot to win the national championship. Only the Top 8 teams remain):

GAME 6: 2:00pm, Angels 6, South Florida Strike Zone, FL, 4.

The Angels took on the Strike Zone in the #1 seed vs. #8 seed game. The Strike Zone manager and pitcher was former major league pitcher, Alex Fernandez (White Sox and Marlins). The Strike Zone got off to a quick start when their big hitter knocked one over the fence in the 1st inning to give the Strike Zone a 2-0 lead. The Angels then scratched and clawed their way back, scoring 1 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th, and 1 in the 5th to take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th. A Strike Zone rally falls short, as with 2 runners on base, and a 2 run game at the time, Will Sprinkle catches a short popup to 3rd base to end it. Brandon Bailey (SS) also made a nice play on a popup near the 3B line to get the first out of the inning. Other defensive gems included a great catch by Gavin Tippet in the 4th on a high, long fly ball by the guy that hit the homer in the 1st, and also in the 4th, a great defensive play by Will Sprinkle at 3B to Brandon Lankford at 1B who stretched ... and stretched, and got the out at 1st. Leading hitters for the Angels included: Jacob Souza 2-2 with 2 RBI's, Will Sprinkle 2-3 with a double, Brandon Lankford 2-3 with a RBI, Davis O'Brien 2-3, and Jalen Scott 2-3.

DAY 5, FRIDAY July 20th: BRACKET PLAY ... NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!

GAME PREVIEW: In our spring 2007 season, the Angels and Titans have played 9 games. The Angels held a slight season series record, winning 5 and losing 4 going into today's game. The Angels/Titans all time series record (including spring 2007 and fall 2006) was currently Titans 8 wins, and Angels 7 wins. Most of these games have gone down to the wire and many to the last at bat.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RESULTS:
GAME 8: 11:30am, Angels 7, Greensboro Titans, NC, 6. (IN 7 INNINGS)

The Titans and Angels had a classic battle today, both teams fighting for the ultimate prize ... a national championship, and both teams giving all they had! The Titans started off the scoring taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Angels quickly answered, and put 3 on the board in the bottom of the 1st. The Titans tied it up in the top of the 3rd at 3-3, then scored one in the top of the 5th, and 2 in the top of the 6th to take control of the game, going up 6-3. The Angels had one last chance, needing 3 runs to tie in the bottom of the 6th. ...........

Jake Barneycastle lead off with a single to left field. A double by Brandon Bailey later in the inning scored Jake to cut the lead to 6-4. Tyler Dombek singled to center field to score Brandon Bailey, and cut the lead to 6-5. With Tyler on 2nd, and two outs, Quentin West comes up to the plate. Quentin hits a double to left field, scoring Tyler Dombek and tying the game at 6-6 and forcing the extra inning.

In the top of the 7th, the Angels turn their 3rd double play of the game (Brandon Bailey SS, Jalen Scott 2B and Brandon Lankford 1B) to shut down the Titans. Angels go to the bottom of the 7th, needing just one run to win the game. Jalen Scott singles with one out to get things going. Gavin Tippett lays down a sacrafice bunt to move Jalen to 2nd. Jacob Souza comes to the plate with 2 outs, and Jalen on 2nd. Jacob hits a blooper over 2nd base, which barely falls between several Titans. Jalen is just one step from 3rd by the time the ball hits the ground, and Jalen beats the throw to the plate for the WINNING RUN! ANGELS WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 7-6 !!!!!! Leading hitters for the Angels included: Brandon Bailey and Brandon Lankford, both 2-3 with 1 RBI each. Quentin West 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI's and Cole Tysinger 1-2 with 1 RBI.

Congratulations to the following Angels for being selected to the ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM: Brandon Bailey, Jalen Scott, Brandon Lankford, Gavin Tippett and Davis O'Brien

FRIDAY July 6th RESULTS:

GAME 1: 6:45pm, Weddington American Red Dawgs 6, Angels 4.

The Angels get off to a slow start and fall to Weddington 6-4. A 5 run outburst by Weddington in the bottom of the 3rd put the Angels in a deep hole. Weddington tacked on another run in the bottom of the 4th to make it 6-0. The Angels rallied in the top of the 5th, scoring 4 runs to cut the lead to 6-4. (A triple by Jalen Scott drove in 2 of the runs). The Angels could not score in the top of the 6th, and the final score was Weddington 6, Angels 4. Leading hitters for the Angels were Brandon Lankford (2-2) and Tyler Dombek (2-2).

===============
SATURDAY July 7th RESULTS:

GAME 2: 10:15am, Greensboro Titans 8, Angels 4.

The Angels took a 1-0 lead into the 3rd inning, but then the Titans score 3 runs in the 3rd and 5 runs in the 4th to break the game open. Angel RBI's were from Will Sprinkle, Tyler Dombek, Jalen Scott and Tyler Howington. Angels leading hitters for the game were: Tyler Howington 2-2 and Will Sprinkle 2-3. Angels fall to the Titans 8-4.

GAME 3: 12:45pm, Carolina Angels 6, Huntersville Hurricanes 2.

A nice defensive effort was turned in by the Angels, holding the Huntersville Hurricanes to 2 runs. All 12 Angels had at least one defensive 'Put Out' in this game, the first time all year that this has happened. Leading the way on offense was Will Sprinkle, who drove in 3 of the Angels 6 runs.

==============
SUNDAY July 8th GAMES:

GAME 4: 9:00am, Carolina Angels 5, Weddington American Red Dawgs 2.

The Angels started double elimination bracket play with a rematch against Weddington. Little did the Angels know at the time, but this would soon become the LONGEST (and hottest) day of baseball in Angels 8U history. The Angels turned in a solid defensive performance, holding the Red Dawgs to only 2 runs. Leading hitters for the Angels were Brandon Lankford, 2-2, with a double and RBI and Quentin West 2-2. Other Angels RBI's came from Tyler Dombek, Jalen Scott, and Jacob Souza.

GAME 5: 12:45pm, Greensboro Titans 4, Carolina Angels 1.

The Titans handed the Angels their first loss in the double elimination bracket play, by holding the Angels to only 1 run. The Titans scored 1 run in the 1st, and 3 runs in the 2nd, and that was all they would need for the victory. The Angels only run was driven by Jacob Souza, with a ground-rule double in the 3rd.

GAME 6: 2:00pm, Carolina Angels 10, Weddington American Red Dawgs 0.

The Angels finally get their bats and their gloves going in the same game, shutting out the Red Dawgs, and putting 10 runs up on the board, That's the most runs we had scored in a single game in this tournament by far. Leading hitters for the Angels were: Will Sprinkle 2-2 with a double, Jacob Souza 1-1 with a double, and Gavin Tippett, 1-2 with a triple. Three Angels all drove in 2 runs apiece: Davis O'Brien, Cole Tysinger and Jalen Scott.

GAME 7: 3:15pm, Carolina Angels 5, Greensboro Titans 4.

The Angels came into this game, knowing they had to beat the Greensboro Titans twice in a row to win the tournament. The Angels carried their previous games victory momentum into this game with the Titans. The game was back and forth, with the Titans taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st, and increasing it to 3-0 after the top of the 3rd. The Angels tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd as Jake Barneycastle drives in run #1, and a Will Sprinkle double drives in 2 more. The Angels take a run one lead into the 5th, but the Titans tie it at 4 in the top of the 5th. .......

In the bottom of the 6th, in a 4-4 tie game, Brandon Bailey leads off with a single. Tyler Dombek lays down a sacrifice bunt to advance Brandon Bailey to 2nd and then a single to right center by Brandon Lankford scores Brandon Bailey for the winning run !!! The Angels championship hopes stayed alive, and forced another game with the Titans. Top hitting Angels for this game were: Brandon Lankford 3-3, Davis O'Brien 1-1, Tyler Howington 2-2 and Jake Barneycastle 2-2.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
GAME 8, 4:15pm, Carolina Angels 17, Greensboro Titans 10.

In the championship game ... (the 5th game of the day for the Angels) ... The Angels looked tired and worn out to start the game, as the Titans took a 3-0 lead after 1. But in the 2nd inning, the ANGELS EXPLODE FOR 8 RUNS to take control of the game! The Angels took a 12-7 lead into the 6th, then put 5 more runs on the board to go up 17-7. Titans rally for 3 in the bottom of the sixth, but no more. ANGELS ARE HYSA / TOP GUN WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!! Leading hitters for the Angels included: Brandon Bailey 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI's, Tyler Dombek 1-3 with 3 RBI's, Brandon Lankford 3-4 with an RBI, Cole Tysinger 3-3 with an RBI, Tyler Howington 2-3 with 3 RBI's and Jacob Souza 3-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's.

Great job by the Angels to beat the odds, and beat a very good Greensboro Titans team in back to back games to win it all. The Greensboro Titans came into this tournament ranked #1 in the State in the USSSA Coaches Poll and #1 in the USSSA Power Rating too.

Selected to the All-Tournament Team were the following Angels:
Will Sprinkle, Jalen Scott, Brandon Lankford and Jacob Souza.
Congratulations to these four players on their great tournament performances!
