Why Baton Twirling is a Sport

1.    Twirlers have coaches.

2.    Twirlers do strength and agility training.

3.    Twirlers watch film of their performances in order to improve their technique.

4.    Even football players wear make-up under their eyes.

5.    Baton twirling is a contact sport; usually you can catch it, but it can hit you anywhere, and contact with a metal stick can hurt!  Contact with the floor on rolls, leaps, and falls is real contact too.  Gymnasiums have hard wood floors.

6.    Twirling routines can leave you winded in less time than jogging.

7.    Twirlers get sport injuries.  Just look at all the leg wraps and knee supports worn by twirlers at competition.

8.    Any practice without a sprain, strain, concussion, or blood on the floor is a good practice.

9.    There are more skill moves in one minute of twirling than in an inning of baseball.

10.  Twirling is much more exciting to watch than golf or bowling (most things are).

11.  Some twirlers get scholarships to twirl in college.

12.  Baton twirlers twirl for the love of the sport, not for the money.

13.  There are winners and losers in baton competitions and you learn life lessons from both practice and competition.

Bee-cause of a Baton

Bee-cause of a Baton

Bee-cause of a baton, one can learn to be creative

Bee-cause of a baton, one can express uniqueness

Bee-cause of a baton, one can develop confidence

Bee-cause of a baton, one can meet many people

Bee-cause of a baton, one can travel to far away places

Bee-cause of a baton, one can gain best friendships

Bee-cause of a baton, one can learn the values of sportsmanships and teamwork

Bee-cause of a baton, one can appreciate music and movement

Bee-cause of a baton, one can develop physical fitness

Bee-cause of a baton, one can teach and learn respect

Bee-cause of a baton, parents come together for the good of their children

Bee-cause of a baton, one can have the opportunity to represent their country

Bee-cause of a baton, we work together to achieve greatness!

"Everything I Really Need to Know I Learned from Baton Twirling"

Play fair

Eat nutritious food and take time to rest

Water is a necessity of life

Work hard and success will come

Present yourself as a winner and others will see you that way too

To have friends, you have to be a friend

Canadians are the most diverse people in the world

A gym is a gym is a gym

Co-operation benefits everyone

Listen to the music - it will tell you what to do

Appreciate and show respect for the efforts of others

When things don't go your way, take a deep breath and try again

There is always more to learn - keep your mind open

Baton twirling is the best sport in the world
