Announcement Draft - revised 3-13-09 NHYFSC CHANGES TEAM FORMATS. For the 2009 season, the New Hampshire Youth Football and Spirit Conference (NHYFSC) will change to a GRADE BASED/AGE division versus the AGE/WEIGHT division. The NHYFSC is affiliated with American Youth Football (AYF), the largest youth football organization in the country. This change has come about after a review by the member association presidents, consultation with other conferences, and various supportive materials. In the last 4 seasons, more youth football teams across the country have converted to the GRADE based versus WEIGHT based format. The removal of weight restrictions allows all children to play at a more appropriate maturity and physical development level. Participants have an opportunity to play on grade appropriate teams with added age restrictions providing for SAFER, competitive teams. What is Grade Based? Grade based is a grade appropriate division, protected by age without weight restrictions. The participants of this division will be together with the same children they play baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, etc. The same children they attend class with and play together at home in their back yards with. They will be with their peers at all times, in fact theyre with their peers from the 1st grade right up to 8th grade and onto high school. The formatting of teams is based on grade attending and age. Grade attending is the primary indicator of how to place youth on a team. The second phase is age based on a span of 3 ages. For example a 4th grade team age would be 8-9-10 (See Grade Chart for further description) Why Grade Based? The program is socially correct. You have parity at every level, each child moves with their respective team. With a grade based program you dont have a child playing at one level this year and then have to jump up 2 levels the following year because of a growth spurt. Every child can play at the appropriate grade level. As the children progress through the program and move onto high school they know they can play with kids of all sizes. We look forward to an exciting 2009 Season!! Spirit SPIRIT DIVISIONS HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED, only the Football Divisions have been changed. Spirit divisions are structured by age based upon the oldest cheerleader on the team. Open to children ages 7-13 yrs old. All teams are formed by sign ups - There are no try outs. Each team will cheer for one of the above football teams at games as well as compete at spirit competition(s). A team with 7 year olds on it does not compete, but do participate in an exhibition at the NH State Spirit competition. Divisions are also broken up into large and small teams dependent on size. Teams are also either designated red or blue, dependent on skill level. Team divisions will decided upon after sign ups. See the birthdate checker under the 'info & handouts' link for age eligibility. |
