Season ends in double overtime
The Renegades post season ended last Saturday in double overtime to the Boston Bandits. Under NEFL overtime rules the first overtime is a sudden death extra quarter. When tied at the end of that period college overtime rules are then used until a winner is decided. The Gades led 6-0 for most of the game when the Bandits put together a long 4th quarter drive to tie the game 6-6. The game then went to a 5th quarter which saw neither team able to score in the extra quarter. Under college OT rules each team receives a offensive possession starting at the opponents 25 yard line. The Bandits started on offense first and were able to score, with the point after put the game at 13-6. The Renegades after being backed up by a penalty were able to move the ball back to the 25 yard line but a 4th down interception sealed the game for the Bandits.
Although the Renegades fell short of their championship goals it was a very successful 2009 season. After finishing 2008 reaching the AA championship game the Gades moved up to the AAA division which they had not played in since 2005. They proved they belonged in the toughest conference in the NEFL finishing the season with a record of 7-3 in the AAA division.
The Renegades would like to thank all the players, coaches and fans for all your help and support in 2009. Special thanks goes to our PA announcer Tom Degnan, the Hardy family, Marie Cowles and the Medway School Administration and all those that helped out along the way.
Keep checking back to the site for announcements of all-stars, awards and the banquet.
