Training this weekend (19th-20th November)

There will be two training sessions this weekend: 1pm-5pm at Broadmeadow (all welcome) and 10am-1pm at Seale Hayne (10-11 Under 16s, 11-1 Seniors) . If you pay by direct debit then you are covered for the whole weekend; if not the Sunday session will be £5 and the Saturday session is free.

BIPHA SW 2011-2012   2nd November 2011

The first round of seniors' league games will be on 27th November; all games will be held at Torbay (Paignton) Leisure this season. All players wishing to register need to download and complete the registration form from http://www.bipha.co.uk/online_forms.cfm by 10th November; ideally please bring the form and money to training on Saturday. The fee is £35 (£30 to BIPHA, £5 to BIPHA SW).

Under-18s need to complete the same form if they wish to participate in the friendlies with Exeter. The fee is only £10 (to cover insurance); dates TBC. Any questions please speak to Ashley.

Meeting at Paignton  10th October 2011

BIPHA SW is holding a meeting at Paignton Leisure Centre at 7.00pm on Wednesday 26th October so that everyone can see the new venue and discuss starting the league. Everyone is welcome.

Training returns   2nd September 2011 

Training returns on Saturday 10th September at Broadmeadow Leisure Centre, Teignmouth. Times are 1-3pm for U-18s, Vixens and beginners, and 3-5pm for seniors/advanced.

Additional meeting   22nd August 2011

An additional meeting is being held this Friday (26th) at The Dartbridge Inn, Buckfastleigh TQ11 0JR to discuss the potential club name change and other matters. It starts at 7.30pm and all are invited to attend.

AGM   6th August 2011

The club AGM is this coming Wednesday (10th) at 7.30pm in the Newton Freehouse (the pub opposite the leisure centre). Hope to see everyone there.

End of year social   24th July 2011

The club's end of year social was held last night at Highweek Social Club. The evening was a big success, with a BBQ, rounders, pub quiz and raffle, plus several awards were handed out including:

• Most Improved Player U-18s: Tom Butland
• Best Team Player U-18s: Cameron Slade
• Best Passer (Most Assists) U-18s: Krissy Pretty
• Best Passer (Most Assists) Seniors: Janis Krogzems
• Bunday's Cup (Most Memorable Moment): The whole Seniors team, for beating the Dragons!
• "One Man Army" trophy: Lewie Tapp

The club is grateful to Krissy and Jenna for sorting out the food and to Zoe for providing the BBQ. Thanks also to everyone who attended.

Training   16th July 2011

Training next Saturday (23rd) is from 1pm til 5pm at Broadmeadow Leisure Centre, Teignmouth. Please note that this will be the last session before our summer break. Don't forget the end of year social afterwards!!

BIPHA Nationals sponsorship & training   2nd July 2011

Many thanks to Chris on behalf of the club for organising sponsorship for the Seniors' trip to the Nationals later this month.

Please note that training will again be at Broadmeadow (Teignmouth) Leisure Centre next Saturday (9th) as the floor is not yet completed at Newton Abbot. Times will be as normal: 2-4pm for U-18s & Vixens, and 4-6pm for Seniors.

Exeter Storm summer tournament review   20th June 2011

Well done to all club players who competed in yesterday's tournament at Dawlish. The Under-18s and Vixens combined to play in the Under-18 age group and their fine performances demonstrated how training together throughout the season has improved their skills individually and collectively. Some of the Under-18s also combined with the other clubs' junior players to form an additional 'Allsorts' team. The Seniors began with a 5-5 draw against Pontypool that was unfortunately marred by excessively physical play, but it was good to see Colin Beale back playing for the first time this year. This result was followed by a 5-0 shutout of Exeter Storm where the defense showed it will be more than capable of holding its own at the BIPHA Nationals next month.

Many thanks to Exeter Storm for organising the tournament, and to the Knights and Vixens who assisted and reffed on the day.

Exeter Storm Summer Tournament   10th June 2011

Here is the proposed match schedule for the Exeter Storm Summer Tournament on Sunday 19th June at Dawlish Leisure Centre. All games are 2 x 12 minutes and played to BIPHA & FIRS rules. Exeter Storm hope that the teams can contribute to towards the refereeing schedule; if not please advise.

Final weekend of games   5th June 2011

The season has ended on a high note for the club. The Seniors secured second place and capped it off with an epic 8-7 victory against the otherwise unbeaten Paignton Dragons. The Vixens and Under-18s also have much to be proud of. A full summary and list of award winners will appear here shortly - stay tuned!

Temporary move to Teignmouth   22nd May 2011

Due to the resurfacing of the floor at Newton Abbot Leisure Centre, training will be temporarily moving to Broadmeadow Leisure Centre, Teignmouth for three weekends at the end of June & beginning of July. The dates are 18th June, 25th June and 2nd July; training will return to Newton Abbot on 9th July. Please note there will be no training on Saturday 7th May. Training will resume as normal on Saturday 14th May.

League games on 3rd April   4th April 2011

A day of 'firsts' for the Knights and Vixens. Janis bagged 12 points in his first two games, Lathaniel scored his first hat-trick and Scott grabbed his first goal for the Seniors as they pulled off two more convincing wins against Exeter and Wadebridge. Matt Hook was the saviour of the U-18s as he scored all 7 goals in their narrow victory over Exeter. Jenna scored her first ever goal for the Vixens while Ella got an assist. Awards went to the following people:

• Lewie, for continuing his outstanding form in goal and for waiting until the match was over before being sick!
• Tom, for his fantastic goal and great defending against the Vixens
• Ella, for her enthusiasm and determination to keep playing despite feeling unwell
• Alyshia, for her first goal against Exeter and for keeping going

Game stewards     31st March 2011

Please note that in response to events at the last round of games, the league has decided to reintroduce the concept of a stewards system. Each club will have to provide four stewards over the age of 18 to help enforce a number of rules. Many of the rules are common sense and widely known, but not always followed, so here is a reminder of the key points:

• No skates outside of the hall at any time.
• Spectators enter the hall solely at their own risk.
• All spectators must remain on the raised platforms. Any prams/ pushchairs must have the hoods raised and preferable facing away from the pitch.
• Keep kit bags in designated areas and not spread across the hall which forms a tripping hazard.
• Players who choose to stand behind the blue rope, do so at their own risk.
• No off pitch stick play.

Parents are reminded that the behaviour of their children outside of games or training is not the responsibility of the club or stewards. Parents must supervise their children at all times before, after and in between games.  

League games on 13th March   14th March 2011

Another eventful day of games for the Knights and Vixens. For the seniors it was a mixed bag of results, starting out with an 8-4 win over Wadebridge largely thanks to Vadim's five-goal haul and Will's 25-save performance in goal despite him suffering with man flu. The second game against the Dragons was hard-fought and typically feisty but the Knights were ultimately defeated 9-6.

For the Vixens, Krissy scored her first hat-trick and Rachel and Jenna picked up player of the match awards; congratulations to Tom and Klara for their awards for the under-18s.

First round of league games   31st January 2011

The Knights and Vixens finally played their first league games of the season on Sunday. The senior Knights had two superb wins, beating Exeter 23-4 and Wadebridge 9-3. Special mentions go to Alex Young for his first ever league hat-trick and Krissy Pretty for her first league goals. The Under-18 Knights lost to Exeter 12-9 but beat the Vixens 5-0, with debutant Knights goalie Lewis Tapp turning aside over 30 shots from the girls. The Vixens finally got on the scoreboard against Exeter Storm but lost 15-1. Congratulations to Lewis, Krissy, Jenna Ross and Simon Williams for picking up 'Player of the Match' awards.

Training resumes this Saturday (8th January) from 2-6pm. A reminder to any players who wish to play in BIPHA SW and haven't yet handed in their form & money to Karen, to please do so at the next training session they attend.

Merry Christmas!   16th December 2010 

The last training session of 2010 will be on Saturday 18th December. Training will resume on Saturday 8th January 2011. Merry Christmas and a Happy hockey-filled New Year from the NA Knights!

Thursday training cancelled   30th November 2010 

Thursday training at Broadmeadow Leisure Centre has been cancelled until futher notice. A lack of players in recent weeks & months has meant that we are not able to afford the hall hire. Thanks to those of you that have been coming regularly and supporting it; hopefully it will be resumed at some point in the near future.

BIPHA SW 2010-11 Season   27th October 2010 

Update from last night's AGM:

• There will be four teams in the Senior division this season: Newton Abbot Knights, Exeter Storm, Paignton Dragons and Wadebridge Wizards.
• Instead of U-21 and U-16, there will be an U-18 division featuring the Knights, the Vixens and Exeter Storm. 
• The league will run from January to May. Fixtures to be confirmed shortly.
