SPRNG 2009-ALL STAR GAMES
NATIONALS NAB WIN IN 18AAA MIDSUMMER CLASSIC

The National All Stars, comprised of players from Chamos, the South Florida Beach Bums and Orioles, defeated the American All Stars (Cardinals, Leones, Royals) 4-1 on Wednesday night at the Santaluces Complex. The Most Valuable Pitcher award (NABA All Star plaque) went to David Dotero of the Beach Bums who started and pitched three scoreless innings for the Nationals. Most Valuable Player award went to Carlos Dominguez (Chamos) who had one hit, two RBIs and a stolen base. He also pitched two scoreless innings for the save, striking out three.

18AA ALL STAR GAME CANCELED

Seems like the Baseball Gods just wouldn't let this game be played. The 18AA All Star game was postponed twice because of weather--first on June 23, then on June 30. The game was rescheduled for Tuesday, July 7 at the Santaluces Complex, and this time it was STRIKE THREE for the midseason Classic---but for a different reason other than the weather. This time it was ---NO LIGHTS!!!. After playing into the bottom of the third inning and with the Nationals on their way to what seemed like an easy victory, (6-0 after two and a half), the game had to be called off because THE LIGHTS DID NOT GO ON. The Palm Beach County Department of Parks and Recreation uses a national service, based in Iowa, to operate the lighting systems at the county ball fields. Apparently, because of a lightning hit about two weeks ago, the NABA Palm Beach League was inadvertently deactivated from the system. Thus, all attempts by the league to get the lights turned on fell on deaf ears when the league contacted the system in Iowa. The PB County Parks and Rec Department has reactivated us so that we will be able to manage the light situation by calling a national number. That is, unless another lightning storm deactivates us.

18AA ALL STAR PARTICIPANTS

AMERICAN DIVISION--Manager Nick Intagliata, Drew Davis, Don Gunn, Vinnie Intagliata, Adrian Gonzalez, Steve Hibbs, and Jeff Prater (White Sox); Jonathan Murphy, Anthony Cruz, Junior Reyes and Eddie Vazquez (Rangers); Jason Russianoff and Milt Muller (Glory Days); Frank Vasquez and Gabe Rodriguez (Mariners), and Andrew Rubin (Warriors).

NATIONAL DIVISION-Manager Tom Brodrick, Coach Noel Vazquez, Rudy Garcia, Fernando Gonzalez, Mario Perez, Mike Farrell, and Matt Weihs (Cubs); Shaun Gullett, Kevin Davis and Reggie Cruz (Brewers), Papo Torres and Ryan Pender (Dodgers); Sean Keller (Pirates) and Steve Grove (Braves). Before the light situation halted the game, Weihs had pitched three hitless innings, allowed only one base runner when he dropped a throw from first baseman Mike Farrell. Mario Perez had a pair of singles, Farrell drove in two runs with a single and a sacrifice fly, and Brock had an RBI single. Gullett, Garcia and Gonzalez had one hit apiece.
