A trio of doubleheaders in the 18AAA league could go a long way toward determining the four teams who make the playoffs.
The top three team---the Caribbean Tigres (13-2-1), Cardinals (10-4-1) and Chamos (10-4-2) are close, but have not quite clinched their spots. It could happen on Sunday. The Tigres and Chamos play a doubleheader at the Lantana Sports Complex, which will close for the season after the twinbill. The Cardinals play a pair against the fifth Leones (7-7) at the Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter. The fourth place Palm Beach Wave (7-5-3) have a double bill against the South Florida Beach Bums (5-8-2) and both will be hoping to get close to that fourth playoff spot. The Yankees, who were officially eliminated from the post season, have the week off, but will notch a pair of forfeit wins over the disbanded Spartans, but even a 6-10-1 record would not be good enough for the post season party.
Seven single games make up the 18AA division schedule. The American Division leading Cuban Sugar Kings (13-3-1) host the National Division's Warriors(9-5-3). The Sugar Kings are hoping to solidify their position at the top, while the Warriors still have hopes for the top spot in the National. Just as importantly they're hoping to nail down a playoff spot. They hold a one game lead over the fourth place Glory Days (9-7-1), who in turn lead the fifth place Braves (8-8) by one game. The second place Miracle, with five wins and a tie in their last seven games, will be at home against the Super Sox (4-12). The Sox can't make the playoffs, but are in the role of "spoiler", hoping to duplicate a 3-1 upset win over the Sugar Kings three Sundays ago.
The National Division Glory Days will host the American Division Mariners (6-10-1) in an interdivisional matchup at the Roger Dean Complex. The Mets, in first place in the National stay within the division to play the Marlins (4-13) again this Sunday, having defeated them 7-4 in a close game last week. The Mets are the visiting team at Dyer Park. In the morning game at Dyer, the Hurricanes (12-5) and the Indians (10-7) square off in American Division actrion. The home standing Tribe will be looking for their fourth straight win, and the Canes have scored two straight shutout victories.
The Braves are at Santaluces to visit the Orioles (13-3-1). The Braves will be looking for a win and a Glory Days defeat to enhance their playoff aspirations. The Orioles have the same record as the Sugar Kings, but lost to the Kings and also played a tie against them. To go by the Sugar Kings into first place, the O's need a win and a Sugar Kings' defeat.
The Brewers and Royals, both 2 and 15, are looking toward the fall, and a win at the Roger Dean Complex Sunday, would boost confidence for the victors.
