Mystic Little League: 2009 Season MLL Divisions
Competitive play for boys (and girls if desired) between the ages of 9 and 12. New players are required to tryout and placement is by draft. Tryouts are open to everyone regardless of experience. However, players must be capable of demonstrating good fielding and batting skills. 12 year old players are required to be placed on a Major League team unless mutual agreement beetween parent/guardian and the MLL board determines that the player should play in the Upper Minors.
T-Ball
Instructional play for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 8. This league teaches the fundementals of catching, fielding, hitting and sportsmanship. Parent involvment is welcome. 7 and 8 year olds are encouraged to play in the Minors Divisions. However, they can play Tee-Ball if they feel the are not ready for the Minors. There is no pitching in Tee Ball. Players hit a ball off a batting tee.
Lower Minors Baseball
Lower Minors involves instructional and competitive play for boys (and girls if desired) between the ages of 7 and 8. Coaches pitch in the Lower Minors. Minor League is structured to develop player skills and prepare them for Major League.
9 and 10 year olds who are not ready for the Upper Minors or Player pitching can play in the Lower Minors.
Upper Minors Baseball
Upper Minors involves instructional and competitive play for boys (and girls if desired) between the ages of 9 and 11. A combination of coach pitch and player pitch is used in the Upper Minors. Minor League is structured to develop player skills and prepare them for Major League. 9 and 10 year olds who are not ready for the Upper Minors or Player pitching can play in the Lower Minors. 8 year olds who have demostrated the skills necessary (i.e. able to catch a ball thrown by an 11 or 12 year old, bat against player pitching, etc.) are eligible to play Upper Minors. 12 year olds may play in the Upper Minors based on mutual agreement between the MLL board and the players parent or guardian. 12 year olds are not eligible to pitch in the Minors.
Minor League Softball
Instructional and competitive play for girls between the ages of 7 and 12. Adults pitch all innings. Minor League is structured to develop player skills and prepare them for Major League. 6 year olds who have played one year of Tee Ball and have demostrated the skills necessary (i.e. able to catch a ball thrown hard by an older child)are eligible to play Minors Softball.
Major League Softball
Competitive play for girls between the ages of 9 and 12. New players are required to tryout and placement is by draft. Tryouts are open to everyone regardless of experience. However, players must be capable of demonstrating good fielding and batting skills.
