The Mentor Youth Cheerleading Association is an independent organization from the Mentor Youth Football Association created for the purpose of team cheer support for the MYFA.

MYCA 2009 Registration

Registration for the 2009 has begun, THANK YOU for your patience.  Registration will be open until August 7th.  HOWEVER we can only guarantee that your uniform will be in for the first game if you are registered by Jun 15th 2009. 

 

 UPDATE!!!!!   REGISTRATION HAS STOPPED FOR ALABAMA AND BULLDOGS IF AN UNIFORM IS NEEDED.

Uniforms

This year the uniforms will all be the 2 piece uniforms wore by all girls last year.  The cost of the uniforms  is $43.00.  If you have a 2 piece uniform from last year, you may use that. 

NEW THIS YEAR - we have set up a group page for all MYCA participants to contact eachother.  You may use this to sell, trade or find uniforms or to answer any questions.  Please NOTE, we set this group up, we are not responsible for any posts other than from the board members. Eligibility

Participants need to be 5 by September 30th, 2009 through 6th grade. Participants without having a sibling on a team will be placed onto the closest roster of team need to where they live.  Families will be allowed to cheer for the MYFA team where their brother plays. Request to be on specific teams will be reviewed but not guaranteed. (without a sibling playing football)  With over 200 participants it is tough to honor requests. Teams will be cut off at a certain number and anyone without siblings will be placed on the next closest team to their house.
Please note that this year the MYFA has limited their participants to children from Mentor schools.

We would like our daughter to cheer but we don't live in Mentor?
No problem.  We have open enrollment.  All first year out-of-city cheerleaders will be placed on the closest unit of need to where they live after all Mentor cheerleaders have been placed.  All returning participants maintain unit rights over any first year participant. Please note that the MYFA is not taking children from outside Mentor schools.

Can my daughter(s) cheer for the same team that my son plays?
Yes. You must register your son with the Mentor Youth Football Association. Once a player has been assigned to an MYFA team the sibling(s) will be assigned to the corresponding cheerleading unit. Please be sure the team you select is the team you desire. There will be a $25.00 transfer fee if you change teams due to your own personal choice. Are we signing up for particular division or team?
Not necessarily.  You will be matched by age to a team closest to where you live unless you have a sibling participating.  In that case you be assigned to his team.

What if our daughter is 7 and our son is 11, can they both be with the same MYFA team?
While the MYFA has younger (red) and older (gray) divisions, participants will not be forced to cheer for their age group team.  The MYCA will not split families.  They may cheer for their siblings team.

What if our daughter isn't sure she wants to cheer.  Can we get our registration fee returned?
The fee is non refundable.

Do I need to buy a uniform?
Yes you need to purchase a uniform unless you have last year's 2 piece.  If you are going to be the falcons, we have some uniforms used available.  Please call and leave us a message if you are interested.  

After I register are there any other fees I should be aware of?
You will be responsible for selling 7 tickets based on the pick 3 lottery at $5.00 a piece. Some teams also ask that you participate in fundraising for the banquet at the end of the year. We have structured our fees so that cheerleading can be more affordable to families without compromising safety. As an instructional yet competitive organization we do not condone gala banquet festivities and events. We would prefer that teams promote both MYCA and MYFA league fundraising activities for the benefit all of our families and not just a few.

We registered our daughter in March.  It's the end of July.  When will we be contacted for practice?
You will be contacted sometime after the MYFA rosters are set in early August  Returning participants may be notified earlier if registered.  Please be patient.  If you have email confirmation of your credit card transaction for your registration fee then you will be called as soon as possible.

What are we expected to do during the year?  Do we sell candy?
No, we will not be selling candy this year. You will be responsible for selling 7 tickets based on the pick 3 lottery. There will also be an optional fundraiser to earn spirit wear.  

When and where do the kids practice?
Beginning early August .  Schedules and times to be determined by each individual team. Units practice at Mentor school fields in accordance with the MYFA team they are affiliated with.
