Bill Yearsley Selected as 2006 Moreno Valley Citizen of the Year
Bill Yearsley, MVYF President, was selected as the 2006 Moreno Valley Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. He was honored at the Citizen of the Year Dinner in January. Bill was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, has an AB degree in history and taught government, history, PE and coached all sports from 1951-1954. He entered the Air Force in 1955 and served 27 years, retiring with a rank of Lt. Col. He served overseas tours in England, Guam, Viet Nam and Taiwan. While on assignment at March AFB in 1970, he began his involvement with the youth of Moreno Valley. Bill has devoted the last 36 years to the youth of Moreno Valley. Bill is currently President of the Moreno Valley Youth Federation, having served on their Board and almost all levels of their organization, for over 30 years. The Youth Federation has provided baseball programs for as many as 1,800 Moreno Valley youths per year. He has also served as the city director for the Moreno Valley National Junior Basketball Program, and has even coached in the AYSO system. In 1997 he founded a program for special needs youth, which became a charitable organization known as Bill's Special Kids. The over 100 physically or developmentally disabled children in the program take part in the group's baseball, bowling, dance, swimming and social activites. Bil is married to his high school sweetheart, Evelyn, and is the proud father of three daughters (Pam, Pat and Penny), grandfather of Patrice, Michael and William and great-grandfather to Nathan. Our congratulations to Bill for this well-deserved honor.
