June 3rd & 4th: CIF State Track & Field Championships - Wrap Up
Friday's State Meet Trials are the end of the road for the Mustangs today. Despite spirited performances, the team does not advance anyone to Saturdays Finals. The boys 4X100 Relay finally runs out of luck, as a rough exchange and an airbourne baton knock them out of their race. Anderson, Coutermarsh, Turner and Ribeiro end their storied track careers with the school record firmly engraved into the history books.
Junior Trevor Furhiman and Freshman Chloe Winn both run solid times in their trial heats - both just off their season PRs. Trevor runs a 4:19.55 1600 meters, finishing 12th in his heat. Chloe takes 5th in her heat - 16th overall - wrapping up an amazing first season in this event. She runs 57.45 today.
The Girls 4X400 is last up, as they make yet another attack on the 2005 school record in that event. Running against the very best, the team comes in 4th in their heat - after another thrilling come-from-behind anchor leg by Chloe. They set a seaon PR of 3:57.50, which is the #2 mark all-time at Monte Vista. Soph Nina Rondoni, Jr Mikaela Hammitt, Senior Katie Cook, and Winn finish out an outstanding season!
May 28th: Day Two FINALS NCS MOC - Two More MV Records Fall!
Record setting day for the Mustangs as nine athletes qualify to the CIF State Meet in four different events! Boys 4X100 runs a flawless race, breaking their school record again in an outstanding 42.13 time. Anderson, Coutermarsh, Turner and Ribeiro surprise the field by finishing a close 2nd to St. Marys HS. They have shaved over a second off the record since breaking it in April.
4X100 takes down the record again - 42.13 - as Christian Anderson, Cameron Coutermarsh,
Dane Turner and Gabe Ribeiro take 2nd in the North Coast Section. Video courtesy of Diane Turner.
In the next event - the 1600 meter run - Jr Trevor Furhiman takes down the oldest track record on the books, as he wipes out the 1971 mark of Bill Soloman which has stood for 40 years! Running near the front the whole race, he runs the last 800 in 2:05 and the last lap in 59.8 as he captures 2nd place overall in a massive PR time of 4:15.26 (official) - over two seconds below the previous record!!!

Frosh Chloe Winn runs her second fastest 400 of the season, as she qualifies for State in 3rd place in the open 400 meters in a great time of 57.09. She is the only freshman in the 400 finals and does not back down against the top area runners!
Finally, the girls 4X400 relay run their second fastest time of the year, battling all race for that fourth and final State meet berth against Miramonte HS. Coming off the final turn, Chloe Winn is 10 meters back, but hearing the calls to "save the baby", she comes on strong and grabs 4th place right at the line - by 5/100ths of a second! The team of Rondoni, Hammitt, Cook and Winn get one more chance at the school record at the State meet!
Sr Gabe Ribeiro just misses out in the open 100, taking 5th place is a strong 11.09 time. Sr Lauren Vujovich finishes her stellar MV career by competing in the Long Jump today as well.
