2013 Important MV Track and Field News:

California State Meet - Two more school records fall!  Girls 4X400 relay again betters the record, running a strong 3:52.44 in Friday's prelims!   That's a four second drop from the record prior to MOC!  Mattie Gebhart, Nina Rondoni, Chloe Winn and Heidi Fuhriman finish 11th overall, just two spots from qualifying to the finals.  Sr Nina Rondoni runs the fastest split today - a fitting send off as she takes her talents to Cal Poly next year.  With the rest of the squad returning, it looks like the girls 4X400 legacy will continue!

In the 800 meters, Freshman Heidi Fuhriman runs an amazing preliminary race - finishing 2nd in her heat and becoming the first Mustang to make the State finals in many years!   Heidi runs 2:12.00 to break her own record again!   She finishes 11th in the finals to wrap up her MVP season!

On the season, a total of five new records were set - all by the girls team:   Fuhriman in the 800, Starn in the 1600 and 3200, the above 4X400 relay squad, and the Distance Medley relay squad of Smiley, Winn, Fuhriman and Starn.  Congrats Mustangs!!!

May 28th - End of Season Awards Banquet!   It's an emotional night in the MV Commons as the team comes together to honor the season's top performers.  Frosh Heidi Fuhriman and Junior Jake DeMaio receive the team MVP awards, with Frosh Brooke Starn and Junior Scott French earning the Top Rookie honors.   Each event group was honored, with Letter winners announced 

In an emotional farewell, Head Coach Austin Glimme announces his retirement to devote more time to his young family.  Many current and former athletes spoke of the passion and dedication that Coach Austin has poured into MV Track & Field over the past 10 years.  His mark on the program will last for a long, long time.  And we expect him back when little Chase is on the 4X400!

5/24 & 5/25:  NCS MOC - IT'S ON TO STATE FOR THE MUSTANGS!   Fr Heidi Fuhriman closes hard in the 800 to grab second place in yet another school record time - 2:12.93!!!!  Girls 4X400 also advances to the State Meet by finishing second as well - just off their school record setting time of 3:54.43 set in Friday's trials.  Mattie Gebhart, Nina Rondoni, Chloe Winn and Heidi Fuhriman are Fresno bound! 

Sr Jon Davies takes 6th place overall in a season PR toss of 49'.  Sr. Colton Tyler finishes 7th in the North Coast section 300 hurdles, while Fr Brooke Starn is 9th in the 3200.

5/18: NCS Tri-Valley Championships   Freshman Heidi Fuhriman captures first place and a school record in the 800 meters today!  Full results and a list of Monte Vista qualifiers to the NCS MOC can be found on the 2013 Results link.

5/11/13  Monte Vista shines as host to the EBAL Finals!   The hot sun wasn't the only thing shining as the three day trials and finals wraps up at Monte Vista!  Numerous Mustangs advance out of League to next weeks NCS Tri-Valley Championships at Granada HS.   Many long hours of work by the coaches, parents and MV "crew" led to an excellent three day meet - continuing MV's reputation for putting on a quality event.

5/9/13 - Day Two: Varsity Trials at the EBAL meet    Trials in the track races today, along with finals in 1/2 of the field events.  Click on 2013 results to find a results pdf handout.  Point scorers for the Mustangs today:  Jr Yvonne Aha takes 3rd place in the Shot Put with a 34' 10.5" toss, while Jr Cody Dalton grabs 5th place in the boys Discus with a PR 151' 8" effort.
 

5/8/13 - Day One at the EBAL T&F Championships:  Frosh / Soph team is up first at League Meet hosted by Monte Vista!  Finals in all the field events as well as the 3200 meter run today.   Qualifying rounds for all other track events.

Results can be found here.   A "Q" next to an athletes name means that they were a heat winner or placed in the top 3 of the heat in distance events.  A small "q" designates that the athlete qualified on time.  Schedule of events for the remaining days can be found here.

Congrats to MV's two EBAL F/S Champions:  Sophomore Justin Cavage wins the pole vault title with a 12' 0" effort, while Freshman Elana Lim wins the 3200 meters by a wide margin with an 11:33 clocking.  Many other Mustangs scored points in the field events and/or qualified to the running event finals on Saturday!

Boys are led by a sweep in the Discus (Davies, Dalton & Hancock), and a 1-2 finish in the High Jump (Mensendiek and Vegh)   DeMaio, Tyler and Mason win the 100, 300H and Triple Jump with PR efforts!  Full results pending.

4/27 - Records fall at the Sacramento Meet of Champions!
Brooke Starn takes down both the 1600 and 3200 meter records today - besting marks that had stood for 13 years!  Her 5:04.99 takes a second off the 1600 mark of Susan Chan (2000).  Brooke then doubles back later in the evening to destroy the 3200 mark - her 10:46.77 taking 9 seconds off Chan's previous mark.

Heidi Fuhriman runs a 2:17.3 in the 800 meters (#4 all time) while Sr Katharine Smiley improves to 5:12.42 in the 1600 (also #4 all time).  Girls 4X400 runs a 3:57 as they get ready for a great post season run.

Boys 4X100 also runs a season best time to start out the day!   Many other Mustangs compete in this classic late season invitational.
