P.T.A. ADVOCACY DAY 2012: LEGISLATIVE CHALLENGES FACING EDUCATION
Attend PTA Advocacy Day on Friday, March 23rd at the Crow Canyon Country Club. For over 30 years, San Ramon Valley Council and Las Trampas Creek Council of PTAs have “trekked” to Sacramento for PTA Advocacy Day.
This year we are bringing PTA Advocacy Day to YOU!
The day begins at Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville with a Keynote Speaker, Legislator Panel with our local legislators, box lunch, and “Breakout Session”. This year we are offering an in-depth “Breakout Session” where you can choose from one of four sessions: 1) California School Finance 101 – a detailed session on the history of California education funding; 2) Digital Classroom – implementing technology in the classroom; 3) How Special Needs Services are funded – in depth session on Special Needs Funding in our districts; 4) Motivating Our Communities – strategies for involving our communities in advocacy. PARENTING 2012 AND BEYOND
Registration is now open for the San Ramon Valley PTA Council’s annual parenting conference, Parenting 2012 & Beyond…,on Saturday, February 25th from 8:30am to 3pm (check-in will begin at 7:45am) at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon. Attendees will start their morning with a captivating keynote speech by Christine Carter, Ph.D. sociologist and happiness expert at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center. Dr. Carter is the mother of two girls and author of Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents. Dr. Carter and the Greater Good Science Center were recently featured in the San Francisco Chronicle. After the keynote address, participants can attend their choice of two small- group seminars focusing on current parenting topics. There are several seminars to choose from, but some sessions will fill quickly, so register soon! The keynote, two sessions, breakfast and lunch is offered at the nominal fee of $40. You will also have a chance to network with other parents, purchase books recommended by the seminar presenters and gather valuable information for your children and family at the vendor row. PTSA 2012 Scholarships
The mission of Monte Vista PTSA is to positively impact the lives of all children and families by representing our members, and empowering and supporting them with skills inadvocacy, leadership and communications. This year Monte Vista PTSA will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating students who are PTSA student members. Please share with us how you have demonstrated the values consistent with PTSA during your time at Monte Vista. Eligibility: Applicants must be a current Monte Vista PTSA Student Member; must be accepted into and attend on a full-time basis a 2 year college, 4 year college or Trade School. Must have a minimum 2.5GPA . How To Apply: Applicants must submit a letter outlining why they feel they are deserving of this scholarship. Recipients will be honored and presented with their scholarship at the Monte Vista PTSA General Meeting on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 @9:30 a.m. Scholarships will be awarded at the sole discretion of Monte Vista PTSA Executive Board.
MVHS TUTORING LAB
Monte Vista High School PTSA invites all students who are looking for extra help in their classes to attend the FREE Tutoring Lab. Tutoring is offered in Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Foreign Language. This lab is funded by the PTSA through parent donations. Teachers are in these classrooms to answer any questions from students, regardless of their class (ie Geometry, Algebra, etc.) This tutoring is FREE and available to all MVHS students who are looking for help...come with questions and get the help you need! Join the MVHS PTSA! Did you forget to join PTSA this year and still want to join? You can! Please send an email to mvhsptsa@gmail.com and we will make that happen. PTSA membership for students is $10, Parents and Teachers membership is $15. Your membership money helps fund important programs at Monte Vista including the MONTE VISTA PTSA TUTORING LAB. This lab is taught by our MV Teachers and is free to our MV Students. The lab offers tutoring in Math, Science, French and Spanish. By joining PTSA, you can have a voice in important decisions. As parents, the PTSA is the organization that represents our interests. Please consider joining today!
