TRAINING RULES
1. Athletes are expected to be suited up and ready for practice by 3:45 pm. Warm-up run and Team stretching will be led by Team Captains. All commands given by Team Captains at practice or meets must be followed at all times.

2. Roll will be taken by Coach Gordon each day. You must check in with your Head Coach before practice and out with a member of the coaching staff before you leave.

3. The only legitimate excuse from practice is absence from school. Any other reason must be approved in advance by Head Coach Jon Gordon. We award the “Cal Ripken, Jr. Award” at the conclusion of each season to the athlete with the best attendance in practice. This is an award that any athlete can win, and you have complete control over it. Other awards require the most votes to win them, and you can never control how your peers will vote. But the “Cal Rikpen, Jr. Award” only requires you to have the most determination and dedication on the Team by coming to practice everyday.

4. Anyone using alcohol or tobacco is not interested in athletics and will be dismissed from the squad.

5. Curfew. All athletes must be at home by 10 pm, the night before all Track meets. Rest is essential.

6. Weight room. A member of the coaching staff must be present before an Athlete may enter the weight room. Athletes must use a spotter for Bench Press or Squats.

7. Throwers. A member of the coaching staff or Team Captain must be present anytime a Discus or Shot Put is used. The Discus and Shot Put were originally used by the Greeks as weapons of war, and an individual will get seriously hurt if safety precautions are not followed.

8. Uniforms. IHSA Track and Field Rules require all athletes to wear a school issued uniform. In Relays, all four athletes must match. Jewelry, including plastic bands, watches, and bracelets are illegal. Racing with Jewelry is an automatic disqualification. Do not even bring Jewelry to the meet on competition days. Racing with a baseball cap on is also an automatic disqualification. However, winter hats are legal. All uniforms must be returned at the conclusion of the season. Thanks.

9. Eligibility. You must be academically eligible for any sport. Eligibility is checked prior to every meet. If you have multiple D's or F's at anytime, you will be dismissed from the squad until you bring your grades up. The reason for this is based on the fact that if you are ineligible, you cannot compete and we cannot depend on you. In the Fall 2008, the Cross Country Team GPA was higher than the general student body. We need to work hard to achieve that same status during Track season.
