GOOD JOB WEDNESDAY NIGHT,

Decent turnout and we added five new faces, including two linemen. Imagine, we scored three times with only one offensive lineman out there. Big ups to Aaron for his great run with no blockers for a TD. Passing game still needs to be tightened up, but we completed a lot of passes and saw some good running after the catch. Defense, with two linemen out there, still stood tall and kept them from any sustained movement. We need to keep up the momentum to get ready for the seaspn. Practice Sunday 10:00.

Good Practice yesterday.

Veterans finally starting to come in and another half dozen new faces. With the Marines and all the former CHSFL players, discipline shouldn't be an issu. Three more weeks until our first scrimmage. Full pads this coming weekend. Practice is Saturday at 11:00 due to Mother's Day. Wed. practice 6:30 outdoors.

Gentlemen,

The Steelers will begin indoor practice this Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 PM at school 19 on McLean in Yonkers. It's important that everyone be there so we don't have a rerun of last season when we weren't ready. Too many were over-confident in the off-season and skipped most of practice and pre-season "We got this" was everybody's favorite phrase, but It got us. Now it's time to look in the mirror and ask if you as an individual gave your best effort both during the season and in preparation. We're moving on and moving back up this coming season.

As you may or may not know, several changes have been made. Coach Tim and the other Connecticut coaches will not be with us. I have decided, after watching others not get it done for several years, to assume control of the my team. I will be the active head coach and I will take over. We have added several new coaches and more will be added. Some of our holdover coaches will new roles. Coach George Davis, who was an adviser last year, has over forty years coaching experience and will become the offensive coordinator and work closely with me. Coach Doug Billups will become more active in helping to run the defense. He is also very experience and played with me on two championship teams. Our kicker, Kevin Bovan ahs retired from active playing and with all of his years of experience, will become the special teams coach. He will also help coach the line. Coach Ray Hentze, our former defensive coordinator will return later on, as defensive line coach. Emmett Wingster, a retired FB and former coach, will be returning as running backs coach. Chris Hayes, an original Steelers and former all-star LB, is returning to coach linebackers. We have also added a new trainer, Eric Gonzalez, who is well experienced, will continue teaching the plyometrics we've been using and will be adding additional equipment such as additional ladders and hurdles, medicine balls and parachutes.
We will work on fundamentals such as form tackling, stance and technique. To win, we can't just go out on Sunday with a few plays and some talent and expect it to work.
We've been working hard recruiting new players and have had good response at our orientations. More than sixty new players have committed. We all know they won't all be there, but we have a large number of commitments from graduating college seniors, most of whom I know form recruiting when I coached in college. At least six of them are offensive linemen. We also have a group of marines joining us. Four new QB's have also signed up and two have been at meetings.
It's time now for all of you to make a commitment to reach excellence this season. You can walk away to somewhere where you don't have to work as hard or you can join a ready made winner or you can be a bigger man and take the challenge and help lead the team back. We had a terrible season, but I'm not ready to say one bad season and give it up. Rededicate yourselves, come in early and be leaders. There will be people to lead and it will grow. If I didn't think we could get it done, I would just close up, but I have confidence in each of you and in the staff and I have confidence in myself to get it done. If we all hang together, welcome the new players and work as hard as we can, there's no limit to what we can accomplish, if we take it one game at a time and give or best effort.

WHATEVER IT TAKES! NO EXCUSES!!

We had a good new player orientation meeting yesterday. We've now got fifteen players signed and more than three dozen others who couldn't attend the meeting but want to play. Most are college seniors away at school and a group of Marines stationed in the area. Several QB's and linemen. Not all will actually get there or make the team, but this is probably the most serious group we've had in a long time. Indoor training will be delayed one week to Jan. 19 at 7:00 PM due to impending snow storm.

Returning players have choices. You can choose to not attend practice and show up in June and live throuhg another season like 2010 or get serious and get ready to return to winning. You can also run somewhere else. We'll find out who the MENn who will stand up to a challenge are next week.

It was a terrible year. The worst ever. Over-confident veterans saying "we got this" and skipping practice, lazy practices, big egos with little results, coaching errors. Players skipped games, several left. Now it's time replace and rebuild. Some players wont' be invited back. For 2011, the Westchester Steelers will start over. We have openings at every position. The coaching staff has been reshaped and we'll continue to add qualified, hard working, knowledgeable coaches.   After letting others run the team the last few seasons, without much success, Coach Ken will step up and take over as active head coach. Former Packers owner and HC George Davis will become O.C. Scorpions owner and HC Dougie Billups will become a full time def. Kicker Kevin Bovan, has retired and will become special teams coach. Former defensive coach Ray Hentze intends to return as a defensive assistant. We still have openings for coaches who want to make a difference.
We've begun recruiting hard and will expand recruiting even more as we near the end of the year, looking for new faces.
If you need a change, want an opportunity to be seen, to join a team with a reputation for hard-nosed football, win or lose, check us out. We'll be back with a full squad and we'll be ready. New player orientation Sun. Dec. 5, 4 PM, Palisade Pizza and Pasta, E-mail steeler1@msn.com or call (914) 969-4136 for more info
