| Butte Northwest/Mile High Senior Softball All Stars |
|
In an exciting three game series, the Butte Northwest/Mile High All Stars defeated the Barstow All Stars of Barstow, California, two games to one to capture their second Western Regional Championship in three years. The team, led by Manager Lynn McCloskey, and Coaches Russ Robertson, Jay McCloskey, and Joe Walsh traveld to Lower Sussex, Delaware, and represented the Western Region with the same grit and determination that earned them the Regional Banner.
Although the younger Butte squad only finished ninth, they competed in every game. They will return ten of their twelve players next year and are hungry for the opportunity to compete again. Their team includes Ashten McCloskey, Ashton Lafond, Jessie Robertson, Bobbi Osternman, Shannon McLaughlin, Nikki Guizzo, Ashley Williams, Katey Walsh, Maria Michelotti, Justyce Connole, Kelsey Krueger, and Courtney Thomas.
The championship earned by the Butte team was only the tip of the iceberg, capping a very successful Western Regional Tournament hosted by Missoula's Mt. Sentinel Little League. Teams and umpires from California, Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Arizona, were treated to genuine Montana hospitality and an awesome venue to play at. They returned the favor by providing one of the most exciting, balanced tournaments ever held. Every game counted and the action was non-stop. Of course, the leadership staff of Montana District 2, especially Hal Karl, Maureen Price, Daurine Spritzer, Al Johnson, Wayne Wade, Warren Hill, and Larry Schock and the Mt. Sentinel staff, did a great job holding up the great reputation Montana District 2 has earned for hosting high level tournaments. Great Job!
