Montana District 1 - Baseball: Welcome

Monday, August 11
Montana District 1 Little League - Baseball

Here is hoping that you and your family will have a great Thanksgiving and a Happy Holiday Season.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

As always, it seems that LL cannot function without changing rules and in 2009 it won't be any different.  One of the changes we have known about for a year or so, and that has to do with bat sizes and weights and bat performance factors.   So if you are thinking about purchasing a new bat for a Christmas present, you may want to check out these new rules.

Beginning with the 2009 season, baseball bats with a diameter of 2 5/8 inches are now the standard for all teenage baseball divisions, ie, Juniors, Seniors, and Big League.  Baseball bats with a diameter of 2 3/4 inches are NO longer permitted for use in the Junior League Division.

In the Senior and Big League Divisions, the standard is the Ball Exit Speed Ratio (BESR), with its minus 3 requirement.  The overall weight (in ounces) of a bat can be no more than three ounces below the overall length (in inches) of the bat.  This mandate remains in effect in Senior and Big League, but is NOT a requirement in the Junior League.

In 2009, the requirement that all non-wood basts use in Little League Baseball (Majors) andbelow shall be printed with a BPF of 1.15 or less.  The majority of the bats made today meet this standard.

They are also changing the rule about pitchers and catchers, and for the better.  If a pitchers pitches 41 or less pitches in a game, he can move to the catching position.  Last year, that could not happen even if the pitcher threw just one pitch.
