Mt. Airy Track Clubs History
The late Sydney J. Russel Jr. organized the Mt. Airy Track Club in 1975. Coach Russel was a prior athlete who wanted to share his talent not only with his children but also with other children in the community. MT. AIRY TRACK CLUB about 1980-1981 combined with The Mallery Challengers Track Club to form the Mal-Airy Challengers Track Club. Coach Russel and Coach Anderson combined the two clubs and resources for about four years until each decided to return to their original clubs.

After Coach Russel's death in June 1988, the club under the leadership of his children and several other coaches proceeded to carry on his dream of developing a team that would focus on helping young people become more responsible while enjoying the sport.
