Xplosion Undefeated At Kirkwood Girls College Showcase!

The Xplosion continued their winning way by going undefeated at the Kirkwood Girls College Showcase held November 28-29 in New Castle, Delaware.  The weather was much better than the week before and so was the college coach attendance.  The team had wins over the South Jersey Banshees 2-0, SAC Premier Fury 2-1, Crofton Blast 1-0 and Pearls Pythons 2-1.  The girls will get a well deserved rest for the month of December before they resume their training indoors in January.

Xplosion Champions At MAPS/MSSL Girls Winter Showcase!

WinterShowcase_2008
The Xplosion participated in the MAPS/MSSL Girls Winter College Showcase held November 22-23 in Southampton and Ft. Dix.  The girls competed in the Pearl Bracket with wins over the Arsenal Strikers (NJ) 4-1,  Bucks Mont United Blast (Pa) 1-0, Calvert Strikers (Md) 1-0 and a 1-0 loss Eastern FC Lynx (Ct) to win the championship based on points.  The weather was brutal, college coaches were scarce, but the medals are awesome!  The Xplosion hopes to have another great showing next weekend at Kirkwood for the numerous college coaches expected to attend.

Xplosion Finalists at Score Showcase at Greensboro

The Xplosion headed down to Greensboro, North Carolina to participate in the Showcase at Greensboro, formerly known as Score at the Shore North.  This invitational showcase has a strong history of attracting top teams as well as hundreds of college coaches and recruiters each year.  This year proved to be no different as the Xplosion was placed in the H bracket for round robin play along with the Michigan Hawks Red (Mi.), D'Feeters 92 (Tx.) and Loudon 91 Red (Va.), all ranked teams in their respective states.  With many college coaches in attendance throughout the weekend, the Xplosion finished up round robin play with a 1-2 record.  Their 1-goal losses helped propel them to the Red Championship bracket where they were seeded 14 out of 16 teams.  The lower seeding seemed to motivate the girls and they proceeded to knock out their next 3 higher-seeded opponents to face the nationally-ranked CASL Spartan Elite (NC) in the championship game.  While CASL dominated much of the play, the Xplosion held their ground and made a few runs of their own.  Unfortunately CASL was able to score with 6 minutes remaining in the game and their defense held the Xplosion in their own end.  Coach Dino did a phenomenal job with the girls and the whole Xplosion family had a great time!

Xplosion Shows Well at JAGS Tournament!

JAGS logo
The Xplosion headed up to Mercer County Park to participate in the 28th annual JAGS Invitational Tournament.  With temperatures hovering at 90 degrees on Saturday in the blistering sun, the girls came away with a 1-0 win over a familiar foe, FC Premier Spirit in their first game.  Their opponent in the second game was the #6-ranked team in New York, the Alleycats Attack.  Despite several girls feeling the effects of heat exhaustion, the Xplosion fought hard and came away with a 1-1 tie.  Sunday morning's game brought another familiar foe, Glassboro Crush.  Despite outplaying the Crush and holding onto a 1-0 lead for almost all of the game, the team suffered a mental lapse in the last few minutes which allowed Glassboro to tie it up and end the Xplosion's chance to play in the final match.  The girls will now be attending Universal Soccer Academy's High School/College Prep Camp and team practices in preparation for the Score Showcase at Greensboro in July.

Xplosion Compete At Columbia Invitational Tournament!

Columbia Invitational
The Xplosion headed down to the Columbia, Maryland area to participate in the 33rd annual Columbia Invitational Memorial Day Tournament, held May 24-26.  The girls played some good soccer against the Alexandria Arrows from Va, the T/E Blizzardz from eastern Pa. and the Centre Gladiators from western Pa., and came away with a 1-1-1 record.  Aside from playing soccer, the best part of the weekend was the team barbecue!  The Xplosion will be gearing up for the JAGS Tournament to be held next month in Mercer County, N.J.

Xplosion Compete At YMS Epic Tournament

With an all-expense paid trip for 20 to the Gothia Cup in Sweden on the line, the Xplosion competed in the YMS Epic Tournament on May 10-11 in Yardley, Pennsylvania.  Playing their first game against the #38 Nationally-ranked home team YMS Comets, the girls lost in a heartbreaker 2-1.  They roared back in their second game, defeating the RSC Raiders 5-0.  In the consolation game on Sunday, the girls found themselves playing against a familiar foe- Cherry Hill Cyclones who had defeated them in the tournament final last year.  After a sluggish first half, the girls woke up in the second and defeated the Cyclones 2-0.  While Sweden in July wasn't meant to be this year, the Xplosion can console themselves with the fact that they've just been accepted to The Score Showcase at Greensboro that same month!

Xplosion 2008 NJYS U16 National Championship Quarterfinalist!

NJYS
This spring the Xplosion advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NJYS National Championship series by defeating US Parma Uniti 6-0 after a first round bye, and knocking out FC Premier Spirit 4-1 in the third round.  In the quarterfinal round, the Xplosion faced the #5 Nationally-ranked PDA Fire.  After a lot of back and forth action, a missed open-net shot seemed to take the wind out of the Xplosion's sails and energized the Fire.  Unfortunately, the Xplosion couldn't capitalize on their few chances while the Fire did, resulting in a 3-0 win for PDA.  The Fire went on to win the championship crown by defeating the reigning champions, MLU Comets by the same 3-0 score.
