Lady Cougars headed to Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
Beginning this fall, the Lady Cougars will be member of the KIAC. Coach Tim Berry is excited about finally becoming a member of a conference and feels the KIAC is a good fit at this point and time. "It was difficult being an independent in softball, conferences really don't want to be bothered with outsider teams" says Coach Berry. The KIAC members for softball are:

Alice Lloyd College, Pippa Passes, Kentucky
Asbury College, Wilmore, Kentucky
Berea College, Berea, Kentucky
Brescia College, Brescia, Kentucky
Indiana University Southeast, New Albany, Indiana
Midway College, Midway, Kentucky
Mountain State University, Beckley, West Virginia

Coach Berry is confident of strong first year in the KIAC.

Sarah Rapp Selected for All Region Team

Junior Sarah Rapp
MSU Lady Cougar pitcher and left fielder Sarah Rapp was voted to the NAIA Region Twelve All Region Team yesterday. Rapp had a season batting average of .509 with 55 hits and 14 doubles, 2 triples and one home run. She led the team in doubles and the pitching staff with a 3.57 ERA. Coach Tim Berry was very excited for Rapp as she represents what a collegiate athlete should be. She will be a team leader for the Lady Cougars for the 2007 - 08 season. Sarah is the daughter of Ted and Patsy Rapp and is a graduate of Richwood High School in Richwood, West Virginia.

MSU Says Goodbye to its 2007 Softball Graduates on Senior Day
Coach Tim Berry isn't looking forward to tomorrow for the MSU Lady Cougar Softball Team. Saturday, April 28th will not only mark the last day of the Spring 2007 season for the team, but 5 MSU Softball players will be playing their last games as Lady Cougars. You see, they will graduate in May. They are as follows:

#25 Natalie Hanson, who will graduate MSU with a Psychology degree. She was a team leader for the Lady Cougars. She pitches, plays 3rd and 1st Base.

#41 Katie Rains, who will graduate MSU with a Fire Science degree in Arson Investigation. She was also a team leader this season along with pitching and playing right field.

#3 Bre Harper Rist, who will graduate with a Dyagnostic Medical Sonography degree. She plays Left field, 3rd Base and 1st Base for the team.

#8 Genesis Coll, will graduate MSU with a marketing and tourism degree. She plays 2nd Base and caught for the Lady Cougars in previous seasons.

#1 Stephanie Barrow will graduate with an Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistant, she pitches and plays 1st Base for the Lady Cougars. She is a third year player, having foregone her fourth season to graduate.

Coach Berry says these players were the core of the team's successes over the past four season and will miss each one. He feels that each of them has special strengths that will benefit them in their dealings with the "real world". "This is a special group that will make their own impact on the world, they are each special ladies" complimented Coach Berry of these student athletes. "You get close to them over the years, watching them grow from their freshman year to wonderful young women", it is hard to see them leave" says Coach Berry.

Anna Kincaid receives Liver Transplant !!
kincaid
Sophomore Anna Kincaid
Anna Kincaid, MSU Lady Cougar 2nd Base player is on the road to recovery!!!! Coach Tim Berry received the big call from Anna Kincaid's father, Phil, on Wednesday, April 11th at 11:30 am from the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Kincaid reported to the Lady Cougars that Anna was in the operating room at the time of the call. She was in surgery until approximately 7:30 pm and came out with the new liver intact and functioning properly. Anna made it through the surgery in good condition. Her strength and determination are large contributors to her success. Phil and Kim Kincaid were at her side in the Intensive Care Unit, where Anna will spend the next 2 - 3 days, beginning the healing process. She is expected to be at the Cleveland Clinic for at least 3 weeks recuperating from the transplant surgery. Thursday morning, Anna was complaining and hungry, which her mother, Kim, said was a great sign. Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid advised that Anna's cancer had not spread according to the transplant surgeons.
Sophomore Anna Kincaid is missed on the softball field this spring, not due to an injury, but a reoccurence of liver cancer. She dealt with the chemotherapy, radiation and everything to do with being diagnosed with cancer at the age of seventeen, while still in Lakewood High School in Newark, Ohio. She lost a large portion of her liver then and defied the medical folks who said she would likely never play sports again....well they just didn't know Anna Kincaid. She not only fought back from the surgery, treatments including total hair loss, but was cancer free. She played her senior year in stellar fashion and accepted scholarship to attend and play softball at Mountain State University in 2005-06.
Anna is a great part of the Lady Cougar family. A feisty young woman who can stand on her own two feet, she was a great addition to the softball program playing 2nd Base in her Freshman season. As luck would have it though, this past fall brought the return of the cancer threat, in the remaining portion of her liver. Ever positive, Anna took the news in stride and is now the owner of new healthy liver thanks to the transplant team at the Cleveland Clinic. Anna is in our prayers and we are hoping for a successful recovery and anxiously await her arrival back to Mountain State University....we know Anna is a GO-GETTER!!
GOOD LUCK AND GET WELL SOON ANNA KINCAID !!!!

Softball Recruiting in High Gear for 2007 - 08 Season
Coach Tim Berry is working extra hard these days preparing for the upcoming softball season. Graduating MSU Senior players Stephanie Barrow (P), Natalie Hanson (P), Katie Rains (P), Bre Rist (3B,OF,1B) and Genesis Coll (2B) will be a large task, especially with so many pitchers marching this May. Coach Berry is recruiting players from Illinois, Georgia, Ohio, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia in order to "reload" a strong defense along with a strong pitching rotation. Sarah Rapp will return as the lone Senior Pitcher and Crystal Arritt, who had to sit out this season due to a vehicle accident, will return as a sophomore pitcher. Coach is working to roster 18 players for next season and is confident of doing so. He hopes to release the 2007 - 08 MSU Softball roster in the coming weeks.
