Recreation Softball Evaluations

Evaluations for Recreation Softball will be held in the Maplewood Middle School gym on Saturday, 3/7 (make up session on Friday, 3/6) and are mandatory for all players in the Junior Division (4th & 5th grades) and Senior Division (6th, 7th & 8th grades).  See the Recreation Softball page for more details on the timing for evaluations.  In addtion, see the FAQ page for more details on the evaluation process.

Did You Miss Recreation Softball Registration?

Registration will continue through February 21 or until rosters are full.  Register in person Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 4:30pm at the Maplewood Recreation Department or online anytime at https://register.communitypass.net/maplewood.    Fee: $95.

NOTE:  Convenience fees apply to online registration.  These fees are paid directly to the internet service provider.

8U Villagers - Open Workout

MSO Softball will be holding an open workout for all 8U eligible players (YOB 2006, 2007, 2008) who may have an interest in trying out for this summer's 8U Villagers travel softball team.  See the Summer Villagers page for more details on the date, time and location of 8U Villagers open workout.

14U & 16U Villagers

Thank you to all of the girls who came out to try out for the 14U & 16U Villagers teams.  The coaches are currently evaluating all of the players who tried out and will provide more information on the teams shortly.



1st Annual "Storming the Village" Tournament

MSO Softball and the Villagers travel softball program proudly announce the 1st Annual "Storming the Village" tournament to be held on July 3-5, 2015 at the Meadowland Park Complex in South Orange, NJ.  See the Tournaments page for more details.

Keep Your Skills Sharp in the Offseason

MSO Softball encourages players to keep their skills sharp in the offseason.  See the Softball Camps & Clinics page for a list of some local indoor training facilities that offer batting cage rentals, group clinics, small group lessons and/or private lessons.

MSO Softball

Maplewood-South Orange (MSO) Softball is a non-profit, volunteer organization which is committed to the promotion of girls’ softball within the towns of Maplewood and South Orange.  We strive to develop great young women both on the softball field and in our communities.  We aim to provide a strong foundation in the development of fast pitch softball and prepare the girls to play in a competitive environment while still having fun.  We encourage players to be supportive of their teammates, be coachable, and be enthusiastic.  We seek to provide a positive, challenging and rewarding experience for all players.

The Maplewood-South Orange (MSO) Softball program is open to all girls from Kindergarten to 8th grade who live in either Maplewood or South Orange.  MSO Softball provides girls with an opportunity to play in either the town recreation softball program or travel softball program.  In addition, MSO Softball provides educational and training opportunities for players, coaches and umpires.  See the relevant links below and in the left-hand menu for more information on all of the MSO Softball programs:

Weather Updates: Code-a-Phone & Twitter
(South Orange Fields ONLY)

If the weather or field conditions are in question, there are two ways that you can be informed:

Code-a-Phone - Call the Code-a-Phone at 973-762-0748 to hear a recorded message about cancellations or postponements.  If there is no anouncement for the current day, then all activities will take place as scheduled.  Messages are generally posted by 4 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends.

Twitter - Set up “twitter” account to receive notifications.  To do so, go to http://www.twitter.com/, create a free account, and follow “SOrangeRec”.  Again, if you receive NO notice, then all activities will take place as scheduled.

NOTE:  You can also get updates sent to your cell phone without a Twitter account.  Just send a text message that says "Follow SOrangeRec" (without the quotes) to 40404 and you will start receiving tweets from us on your device.
