SOME EXPLANATIONS
Kids respond better to encouragement than
criticism
They play ball to have fun and build their
self-image, not to have it destroyed
The more help coaches get, the more time they
have to focus on coaching
Team practices are very important to the
player’s development and team unity
A parent offering playing instructions during a
game can confuse a player when the instructions are different from
what the coach is saying. Best to leave coaching to the coaches
during practices and games….unless you’re asked to help out.
Always feel free to talk with your child’s coach
about a concern. Before a game is the worst time because he should
be focused on other things; between games is the best.
Umps are kids and make mistakes just like
players do…but they don’t have the benefit of a coach to correct
them between innings. NOTE: the League will be providing more
support to umps after and between games in 2007.
