2008 Dowd Tournament Recap
Despite the weather Friday night, the seventh annual Tommy Dowd Softball Tournament completed on time Saturday evening.
There were 16 teams in the tournament and each played a minimum of two games. We had teams representing Rockland County, Monroe Senior League, Monroe Woodbury and Middletown. The tournament opened with two games Tuesday night, two again on Wednesday and three on Thursday. The games were rained out on Friday, yet the tournament was still finished Saturday evening.
Despite entering the loser’s bracket during the week, Gilligan’s Clam Bar advanced to the semi final game by winning five consecutive games. For this effort, they received the Team Sportsmanship award as well as the Most Outstanding Pitcher award.
The class of the tournament was last years runner-up team, Rockland Reunited, managed by Joe Nardi. They defeated two of the first three teams they played by the mercy rule in the third inning. They went on to win the tournament without losing a game. The MVP of the tournament was two time winner Pat Gorman and the Defensive player was Brian Smith also from Rockland Re-United.
Not to be lost in the shuffle was Capital Management who lost to Rockland Reunited in the winners bracket and then for the second time in the finals.
After the final game was finished there was a tournament party at Bourbon Street of Monroe. Food and entertainment was provided to all who attended the party.
Order of finish:
Rockland Reunited, Capital Management, Gilligan’s Clam Bar, Tommy D’s
Superior Shine, Fort Apache, Auto Pro, All County Mechanical, Vislocky Painting
