Playoffs
The 2009 Playoffs ended this week and three Champions were crowned:
#1 Seed Brazen Head defeated Rand Realty in two games to capture the C Division Championship. To get there, they had to defeat Nebrasky Plumbing/Bourbon St. (who reached the semi's by defeating Billy Ball in the C Division play-in game) in game #3 of their best of 3 series. After taking Game #1, Game #2 had Nebrasky come out ahead and force a game #3. Billy Canavan then took matters into his own hands as he hit a 3-run Homer and Grand Slam to put Brazen Head into the Finals. Rand Realty reached the finals by defeating FGFP in a pivotal Game #3 that was a real barn burner as Rand held on for a one run victory to advance.
In the A Division, Birchwood Caterers/Tommy D's defeated the Aftedeck in game #3 to win the series. The Afterdeck advanced to the Finals by beating Mable Morans in 3 games. Birchwood had previously beaten the Captains Table.
Loyal Tire/Apple Auto Body took the B crown by winning two straight from Pro Motion. Pro Motion defeated Master Chimney Sweeps 25-24 in 10 innings to move into the Finals. This had to be one of the more entertaining and dramatic games in the 18 year history of this league. Loyal advanced to the Finals by beating Wallace and Berry in game #3.
The League Party will be held Saturday November 7th at 7PM at Birchwood Caterers/Monroe Country Club in Monroe.
As of the beginning of Week #19, 16 of the 17 teams in the league still had a shot at making the playoffs. In the A Division, 2.5 games separated the 4 teams. In the B Division, Loyal Tire has won 10 straight games to give them a 1.5 game lead over Pro Motion and 3 teams were vying for the final playoff spot. In the C Division, 1/2 game separated the top 3 teams. FGFP and Brazen Head are scheduled to play on the 16th which could determine the Division winner. Rand Realty is also still in the mix for the #1 seed. 2 teams were also in contention for the final playoff spots. So, pretty much every game now has playoff ramifications. Please stay tuned!!
Weeks #16 & 17 saw a lot of action as the rain held off a bit. The A Division was very tight with only 3.5 game separating the 4 teams. Loyal won their 9th straight game to maintain their edge over Pro Motion in the B Division. 3 teams were within a game of each other for the remaining playoff spot in the B. In the C, only 1.5 games was the difference between the top 4 teams. We are in the midst of playing a number of makeup games now so please check with your manager and the web site for any additional changes.
Week #15 lost 6 games due to rain and 5 were played. Pru Rand continued their hot play and found themselves atop the C Division. And Loyal took a 1/2 game lead in the B Division.
Week #14 had no rain and some great action with Table ending a 6 game losing streak in the A; Pro Motion finally playing in the B and Gore Pools edging rival Big Mike's; and Pru Rand winning another game in the C.
Week #12 had four more rainouts and #13 five more. Not quite ark time as yet but season will be pushed back a little. Most games have been rescheduled on this site so please look under Calendar or Schedules. If not sure, contact your manager.
All the Division races are really heating up now with no more than a game and 1/2 separating each leader. In the A, Birchwood/Tommy D's extended by 1/2 game their lead with a win and rainout of the other two teams. Master Chimney fell into a 1st place tie with Loyal in the B. And FGFP is within 1/2 game of leader Nebrasky Plumbing/Bourbon St. Cafe with their win over Nebrasky.
Week #11 had almost a full slate of games until the last one on Friday night when skies opened up. In the A Division, the Afterdeck closed the gap for first place by beating Birchwood/Tommy D's. In the B Division, Wallace & Berry and Pro Motion had big wins. And in the C Division, Nebrasky/Bourbon St. once again defeated their arch rival Brazen Head to expand their lead.
After a complete washout for Week #9, Week #10 only had one game lost to rain and 7 games played. In the C Division, Nebrasky/Bourbon St. and Brazen Head continued their rivalry with another close game in which Nebrasky prevailed. In the B's, Loyal Tire won their 5th straight to close within 1/2 game of Master Chimney Sweeps. And in the A, Birchwood Caterers/Tommy D's opened up a 1.5 game lead with their win on Friday.
Rain? What rain? We now (Wed. July 8th) have had 10 straight games cancelled due to rain and 24 games total that need to be rescheduled. Just to update everyone we are working towards securing additional slots but the problem we face is that other leagues have also had similar problems with weather so everyone is backed up. As soon as we have rescheduled these games we will place on this site and all managers will be notified.
Week #8 had 4 games played and 4 cancelled due to rain. Birchwood/Tommy D's took over 1st place in the A Division, Nebrasky Plumbing/Bourbon St. kept pace with Brazen Head in the C and Big Mike's & Loyal Tire tightened things up in the B.
There was still rain in Week #7 but the League was still able to get 6 games in. Brazen Head continued to run the C Division with it's potent offense and tallied another 17 runs. Loyal Tire won their 2nd game of the year to tighten the B Division and Gores Pools stayed right with Master Chimney Sweeps. In the A Division, 1 game separated all 4 teams as Mable Morans put up 21 runs on the Captains Table and Birchwood/Tommy D's edged the Afterdeck in a pitchers duel.
Week #6 was once again dominated by rain as only 5 games were played. In the A Division, Mable Morans won their first game of the season and the Afterdeck handed the Captains Table their first loss of the season. In the C Division, Brazen continued their torrid hitting putting up 21 runs in their win and Pru Rand handled Monroe Jewelers/Rosmarins Day Camp. The B Division saw Master Chimney and their star Otto Vasquez win again to take over 1st place.
Week #5 saw lots of rain and only 3 games played as games on Wednesday (2) and Friday (3) were postponed. Wallace & Berry in the B came from behind to beat Big Mike's. FGFP and Nebrasky Plumbing/Bourbon St. continued their rivalry with the men in yellow taking the 1st of the series. Brazen Head continued to be one of the league's more potent offenses with 21 runs scored this week.
Week #4 had a few pitchers show up and decide to stop the offense that has been prevalent in the first 3 weeks. Bob Klopchin of Master Chimney Sweeps pitched a shutout for one of the few goose eggs in recent memory as he stopped the potent Pro Motion bats in a B game. Kudos also go out to Rick Hershner of Pro Motion for holding Chimney to 1 run. Donny Toto of Birchwood/Tommy D's and Papo Rodriguez of the Afterdeck locked up in a great duel in an A game Friday night that went extra innings and was won by Birchwood.
