MORE WORLD SERIES

I would again like to take this opportunity to congradulate the Belles and Debs State Championson the participation in the World Series. I have received several email and comments about how well our girls, coaches and parents represented not only their leagues and families but also the State of Mississippi. This was true of all of our age groups from the Darlings all the way to the Debs.

WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS

Congradulations to East Central, Mississippi Angels X-Play State Champions, on winning the first Fastpitch World Series for the State since 1993, which was in the Debs Division by Forest Hill. It was not only the first since '93 but the first ever in the Angels Division and the Inaugural Angels X-Play World Series. They came out of the losers bracket to fight their way back and win the if necessary game against the host team from Troy, Al. 13 - 7. After falling behind early they battled back to take the lead scoring 13 unanswered runs against a very good Troy team. Tennessee and Troy were Co-Runners up and Georgia won the Sportsmanship Award. I had the honor of being the Co-Director of the Angels X-Play World Series and present East Central their Championship awards. The last Slow-Pitch World Series winners were Carthage and Corinth back in 2001.

WORLD SERIES

I would like to personally thank all of the Mississippi State Champions that played in the Darlings, Angels Traditional, Angels X-Play, Ponytails Traditional, and Ponytails X-Play World Series this week. I have receive numerous complements on the behavior of the players, coaches and fans from all divisions. Hopefully our Belles and Debs teams can continue this trend and have great success starting this weekend.

After a vote of the Mississippi Board of Directors, the State Tournament Sportsmanship Trophy for the Darlings, Belles and Debs Division were renamed starting this year.

The Darlings Sportsmanship Trophy will now be known as the Haley Van Alstine/Danny Fletcher Sportsmanship Award.

The Belles Sportsmanship Trophy will now be known as the Jessica Wood/Danny Fletcher Sportsmanship Award. The World Series Sportsmanship Award is also named in Jessica's honor.

The Debs Sportsmanship Trophy will now be known as the Lacie Culpepper/Danny Fletcher Sportsmanship Award.

Danny Fletcher is a former State and National Director and former Debs Commissioner. Haley Van Alstine is a former player from Vancleave, Jessica Wood is a former player from Magee and Lacie Culpepper is a former player from Carthage.

Haley and her parents were killed in a tragic car accident following the State Tournament a few years ago. Only one of her siblings survived. Jessica and Lacie both died in car accidents the weekend prior to their teams playing in the State Tournaments. Both teams won their State Tournaments and went on to the World Series the season that both were tragically lost.

This year the State of Mississippi had another winner of a Dixie Softball Scholarship. She is Marley Jae Wilson from Golden, Ms. She will receive $1500 over her College Career to help pay for her educational expenses. Congradulations to Marley.
