Spring 2017 Update

It has been awhile since our last update. After a couple of months off from competitive play, the Stallions kicked-off their final club season with a 2 win/1 loss showing at the Loudoun College Showcase.  A late breakaway goal against on a cold and windy Friday resulted in the sole 1-0 loss, keeping the Stallions from hoisting the trophy but it was otherwise a solid start to the season. Solid end to the season at Columbia Invitational

The Stallions had a succesful end to their 2015-2016 campaign at the SAC Columbia Memorial Day Invitational tournament. Inviting three guests to help with a depleted back-line, the Stallions game up two quick goals in the first game on Saturday before settling in and putting on a show of high quality soccer. Although the Stallions wouldn't cede another goal in the tournament they were only able to claw back one on Saturday in the 2-1 loss. Sunday was a rain soaked match-up thanks to Tropical Storm Bonnie but the Stallions convincingly beat the eventual-champs 2-0. On Monday, the Stallions couldn't find the back of the net in another quick-passing display settilng for a scoreless draw and third place.

Tough State Cup game marks first 2016 loss for the Stallions
The Stallions 2016 State Cup campaign fizzled in 1-0 loss to MUFC. In a game that saw several friends, school mates, and former teammates faceoff against one another, it was MUFC that was able to capitalize on a high shot midway through the second half. The Stallions made a furious push to pull even but missed just wide several times while surviving a number of corners on the other side.

Baltimore Mania - Unbeaten in snow-shortened tournament

The Stallions opened with a 1-1 draw and then a 2-0 win on Saturday in the snow. The field condition were less than ideal which lowered the quality of play in front of the college coaches but hopefully enough to impress here and there.

With the continued snowfall and wet conditions, Sunday games for the showcases were canceled. Although the Stallions stood atop the table after Day 1, they didn't get a chance to play for an outright championship again.

The Stallions next turn their attention to Maryland State Cup and the remainder of Region 1 Champions League play.

Stallions continue unbeaten streak at Manhattan Kick Off Classic

The Stallions continued their unbeaten streak with two upset wins and a draw at the Manhattan SC Kick-Off Classic in Long Island NY in frigid temperatures. The team even found itself scheduled for back to back games late on Sunday but responded well to the challenge.

Next up, the Stallions kick off Region 1 Champions League play and prepare for Baltimore Mania.

MSC Stallions 98 miss championship, settle for 3rd at 2015 APC

The MSC Stallions 98 were in good form at the 2015 Annandale Premiere Cup Girls Showcase last weekend but settled for 3rd. The team fought back from 0-1 deficit in the first game to come away with a 2-1 win on a frosty morning. Although there were plenty of chances in what was otherwise a dominant performance in the afternoon match, the Stallions couldn't beat the opponent's keeper and never recovered from sun-assisted high ball under the bar. However, the Stallions were playing for the championship on Sunday in a spirited and quality match against a very good PAE team. Both team had their chances, including a open net mis by the Stallionss early on and a hard hit shot (but saved) by the PA team late, but each was only able to capitalize once, settling for a 1-1 draw. Tie breakers forced the Stallions down a notch to 3rd.

Thanks to our opponents for the weekend.

Beautiful weather and quality soccer at SAC Memorial Day
The Stallions 98 notched 2 wins and one disappointing loss in a hard fought and skill- and possession- oriented again against a good Black Watch Buffalo team. The Stallions gave up a breakaway goal in the closing minutes after failing to convert on a number of chances and controlling most of the game.

Stallions 98 rusty in rain-soaked VA Beach Spring Classic

The effects of the winter weather on training were evident as the Stallions 98 looked rusty and out of sync, dropping two games in a torrential downpour amid 30 MPH winds in Virginia Beach against two strong Beach FC teams. The tournament was partially cancelled due to weather and a no-show team in the U17/U16 and HS age groups resulted in some much appreciated creative scheduling and tournament team rosters by Beach FC to help those teams that traveled get in some time on the pitch.

Stallions 98 take the top of the table at frigid PWSI College Showcase
Despite the below-zero wind chills that forced the cancellation of Sunday's games and playing their final game with temperatures in the teens, the Stallions 98 did just enough to finish at the top of the table for the PWSI Presidents Day College Showcase. Although the Stallions 98 had trouble finishing, they did not concede a goal for the second tournament in a row and only one in their last three tournaments.

Next up is a lot of hard training to correct mistakes followed by the PWSI President's Day Showcase in February
