ACES asked to play in Jefferson Cup Showcase game
Massapequa/Jefferson Cup News

The Jefferson Cup is one of the highest ranked boy's tournaments in the country. Each year the tournament has offered it's participating youth teams the opportunity to watch college teams in a showcase game at the tournament main complex featuring some of the local colleges near the Richmond, VA area. This year with the college spring breaks falling at the same time as the tournament dates the choice colleges are not available so the tournament has decided to adopt a new practice for it's showcase games. The BU18 Massapequa ACES who are trained by Rich Nuttall and Ronan Wiseman, have been chosen to participate in one of these showcase games. The ACES will be matched against the YMS Xplosion who are the defending national champions in the BU18 age group. Things don't get any easier for the Massapequa boys as they face the 2nd ranked team in the USA, the Triangle SC United on Sunday. The ACES were champions of the Jefferson Cup in 2008, defeating Triangle in the semifinals. The ACES are also ENYYSA State Cup champions in 2008 and 2009. Good luck to the boys as they represent the Massapequa Soccer Club in this prestigious setting

ACES and Kingstone JFC of Barnsley England play International Friendly at Burns Park
On Friday evening, August 22 under the lights at John J Burns Park in Massapequa, the Massapequa Soccer Club's BU17 team the ACES hosted the boys from the Kingstone Juniors Football Club.  It was an exciting evening all around as children and parents from the Massapequa Soccer Club were on hand to support the event.  The ACES were off to a quick start and seemed like they were going to be terrible hosts when Michael and Jeffrey teamed up in the early going to put the ACES up 2 nil.  But the feisty boys from Kingstone kept up the attack and the boys of the MSC became complacent with their lead.  The physical play paid dividends when the Barnsley side were awarded two indirect kicks late in the half.  And they capitalized on both opportunities to end the half even with the maroon side.  The second half was spirited and the fans on hand witnessed some very good soccer.  Coach Nuttall and the Kingstone manager were heard commenting on the well played match.  And appropriately so in an International Friendly the match ended in the 2-2 draw.  The ACES were led by defensive standouts Chris V, Joe B, Brian and Gary with help from friends Eddie C and CJ.  The midfield was controlled as always by Evin and Josh who were complemented by Matt B and guests Jimmy N and Jon M.  Stefan B was also a dynamic attacking player for the Massapequa side while Alex and Kevin were strong between the posts.  "All-in-all it was a temendous night of soccer for those who participated and for those who were there in support of another great event brought to you by the Massapequa Soccer Club", ended MSC President Peter A.

ACES win 2008 ENYYSA State Cup Championship

The ACES defeated the Commack Premier 2-1 when Evn Nadaner scores the game winner with 8 minutes remaining in the second overtime.  The great things regarding this win is that the ACES won despite playing most of the game with 10 players due to a player receiving 2 yellow cards and that the ACES are the first boys team from the Massapequa Soccer Club to win a ENY State Championship in over 10 years.  Congratulations to:

Brian Anderson, Michael Annarumma, Matt Barry, Joseph Bartichek, Josh Butzke, Corey Densing, Matt DiDomenico, Gary Infante, Danny Issroff, Evin Nadaner, Jerry Nobile, Jeffrey Rivas, Alex Sandler, Charlie Vasiento and Chris Vinberg!

accomplishment, and we are very proud of all of you.

ethic that you have is unparalleled and rare in people your age. Your

parents and coaches should be incredibly proud of not only your soccer

ACES guest player invited to train in Italy
ACES guest player and now member of our Roughriders Y-league team Dominick Sarle has been invited to train in Italy as a result of the FA Eurocamp trip just completed in February. "This just validates the purpose of the trip. It was the dream of the Principals of FA Eurocamp, Joe Balsamo and Giandomenico Costi, to bring American players abroad in hopes that one or some get picked to train with the clubs we visit. I really didn't expect it to happen but I am absolutely pleased it did. Although Dom is not an actual ACES member, he has joined our Y-league team and we found out on our trip that not only is he a good player but a good person as well. It looks like Dom and his parents are interested in learning more about this opportunity".   Dom had to cut short his Italy trip to return home to try-out for the '92 Region team which is planning a trip to ironically Italy. We will assist Dom in maintaining the contacts with the Italian club and in fulfilling this dream. Good luck Dominick. For the record, Dominick was already on the plane home when the ACES defeated a very strong Fiorenza team that included a '92 player which the Italian National team has brought up to the '91 National team. He was a special player. And on that day, we had a bunch of special players!

Origin of the team name - ACES
In 1974 at Valley Stream Central High School there were two friends who seemed inseparable to some people. Sophomores Ray Esposito and Peter Annarumma began hanging out with some upper classmen, notably Charlie Vella, John Urso and Rob Panariello. Ray and Peter began calling their friends Sport and Ace. In turn their circle of friends began calling Ray (Sport) and Peter (Ace). When one was seen without the other the question was asked, hey Sport wheres Ace? Or vise versa. Somehow the name Ace seemed to stick when in 1975, Ray and Peter formed a great 11th grade softball team participating in Central's very competitive intramural softball league. The ACES were formed with the likes of greats like Mike Antoniato, Steve Turk, Ray and Peter among others. The ACES won the league in both 11th and 12th grade and a legacy was born. The culmination was an extra inning loss to a stacked Teachers team led by the mighty Carlo Bussa who crushed a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning for the win and bragging rights over the students for the rest of the school year.

Peter (Ace) went away to school (Susquehanna University) but returned in 1978 and led the Valley Stream changes who were 0-9 in 1977 to the Nassau County Touch Football league Super Bowl with star receiver Ray (Sport). In 1980, Ray and Peter broke away from the Changes to form the Valley Stream ACES. The ACES participated in the ultra-competitive NCTFL from 1980 - 1987 winning the "B" division championship in 1982 and the "A" division championship in 1985. Other members of those teams were the afore-mentioned Charlie Vella, John Urso, Rob Panariello, and Howie Kleinschmidt, Ron Annarumma and NCTFL greats Bill Luciani, Keith Olsen, Kevin Melvin, Augie Oliveri, Mike Blackall and former NFL players Lionel Macklin, Chy Davidson and the great John Mohring.

The ACES name was then transferred to Peter's children as Lauren and her friends formed a great CYO basketball team, the Purple ACES who captured the 1999 ST. Rose championship with Lauren leading a nasty defense and supported by her friends Jessica Alonso, Gloriann Luther, Nicole Papola, Lizzy Page and Kim Cerar among others.

Peter John Annarumma then carried on the ACES legacy as a member of the St. Rose CYO travel basketball team. The ACES were the only "B" team competing in the highly competitive CYO Diocesan and Island Garden leagues against other parishes "A" teams. These ACES were division champs in 2001-2003 and were led by Michael Butler, Matt Bayer, the Pisciotta brothers, Michael and Kevin, Scott Mulford and Chris Japngie among others.

Not to be outdone, Michael Annarumma's soccer teams have been names the ACES since the boys were 7 years old with Michael, Jeffrey Rivas, Brian Anderson as lead members of those strong Intramural teams that rarely lost a game and always seemed to win the MSC Intramural championships. The travel ACES were formed in 2000 and long time Intramural rivals Joseph Bartichek, Eddie Curry, Steven Suntzenich, Steven Marotta and Danny Herrera became ACES. That first team (U10) also included Jonathan Stegner, Luca Ambrosini, Chris Collins, Andrew Maloney and Chris DiMaria. Proudly, Michael, Brian, Jeffrey and Joseph are still teammates on the most recent ACES team.
These ACES teams are perpetual Long Island Junior Soccer League champions carrying on the successful torch of ACES teams of the past.

It is expected that the Annarumma children carry on the legacy of the ACES when they give back to their community and to their children. To date it's a 33 year tradition!
