- This manual was developed specifically for the Marlborough Soccer club by our Coaching Director. It provides important and helpful information about coaching a Marlborough Soccer Club soccer team. The manual is approximately 100 pages.
Procedures to Register TRAVEL Players for CJSA Play
PROCEDURE TO REGISTER PLAYERS FOR TRAVEL SOCCER Travel Team Registration Instructions to Coaches Team rosters and player/coach passes must be completed prior to team competition. Referees are instructed to ensure that no game will begin without player passes. Additional players can be added to a roster at any point during the season, with ample time required for processing. For teams playing Cup competition (U11- U14), certified rosters must be submitted along with the Cup Registration entry. In order to complete the registration process, each coach must submit the following to the Club Registrar.
1) 3 copies of a completed CJSA Roster Passes form. This spreadsheet is available here “” Roster Passes (Excel Spreadsheet)
2) A completed player/coach pass for each player and coach on the team.
3) Proof of age for each player. Proof of age (POA) consists of a copy of a birth certificate or birth registration, or a player pass from a previous season.
After submittal, proof of age information will be retained by the Club Registrar. Rosters Passes form should be filled out completely. The Roster Passes form is setup to run on a standard HP laser jet printer. For submittal of rosters, POA and passes to the Club’s CJSA Registrar;
1) The players should be listed alphabetically on the roster.
2) The player passes should be separated from the proof of age and should be stacked alphabetically.
3) The proof of age should be stacked alphabetically.
Player/Coach Pass Instructions Blank player/coach passes can be obtained from the Club’s CJSA Registrar or the Boys and Girls Directors. The player’s (or coach) name, club name, date of birth, age group, seasonal year and the player’s ID number should be filled in completely. Player and coach pictures must be glued to the pass. The team name is the Marlborough Soccer Club. The team number is the club number which is ____. The age group listed on the player pass should indicate the age of his/her own age group, i.e. an U11 age player playing on a U12 team should be listed as U11. The seasonal year should be in the format of ‘YEAR’-‘SEASON’. For example, the 2006 spring (1st) season would be 06-01. The player ID is assigned by the Club Registrar. For returning players, the ID number is the same as the previous year. For new players, contact the Club’s CJSA Registrar for a new ID number. One copy of the stamped roster and each of the player and coach passes will then be returned to the Coach. It is the Coach’s responsibility to have the passes laminated after the District Registrar has stamped and signed the passes.

Field Setup and Takedown Guidelines
Sundays
Individual teams are NOT responsible for field setup and takedown on Sundays; Arlington Sports provides this service. Do NOT take nets to the field. DO NOT TAKE NETS DOWN AFTER THE LAST GAME -- please leave the nets up at the field after your team's game on Sunday. Teams should ignore the setup and takedown symbols on their league website schedule for Sunday games. If a field is locked when you arrive, call the rover at 571-238-0265.
Saturdays and Weeknights
Arlington Sports DOES NOT set up or take down nets for Saturday and weeknight games. The first and last teams scheduled on a field MAY be responsible for setup and takedown. Setup and takedown requirements vary with different fields, as shown below:
First Team Puts Up Nets/Flags Nets Remain Up Nets/Flags Remain Up
Last Team Takes Down Teams Set Up Flags Only No Action Required By Teams
Arlington Hall Larry Graves Bluemont Junction
Benjamin Banneker (EFC) TJ Upper
HB Woodlawn Tuckahoe Chesterfield
Kenmore
Powhatan Springs Wakefield Stadium/Gunston (see special instructions
Quincy below)
Swanson
Williamsburg 1, 2, 3
Field preparation responsibilities are indicated on a team's league schedule. A green triangle designates the first game, with setup responsibilities. A purple circle designates the last game, with takedown responsibilities. Please ignore these symbols for Sunday games; in Arlington they apply only to Saturdays and weeknights.
Equipment Storage
ATSC equipment is stored at Nancy Etkin's, 2230 N. Powhatan Street, near Overlee Pool, off Lee Highway. Go BEHIND the house, turning right on 22nd Rd to cul de sac. Wooden shed is next to back gate, with door on side. Get four flags (separated by those for Gunston and those for all other fields) and a bag of nets appropriate for your field (see notes below). Sign out equipment on clipboard, indicating color of net bag.
Net Installation and Take Down
Setup: Velcro straps, stakes, and a hammer are in the bag. Bring a stool or stepladder. Attach nets to goal frame with velcro or, when available, with small white clips that go in a channel in the goal frame. After putting up the nets, leave the net bag clipped to the back corner of one of the nets.
Takedown: Bring a stool or stepladder. After taking down nets, fold and roll tightly and put both nets into bag (they will fit). Put Velcro, stakes, and hammer in bag pockets. If nets attached with small white clips, leave these clips in the goal frame, not on the net. Return nets and flags to Nancy's shed and sign them back in.
Net / Goal Frame Sizes
U9-U11 Fields: ATSC has two sets of nets (net color is white), in bags marked "small goals"
U12+ Fields: ATSC has four sets of nets (1 set is orange, 3 sets are red), in bags marked "large goals." Red nets are larger and must be used at Chesterfield, Quincy, Gunston, and Kenmore Back. These fit over/outside the goal frame. Orange nets are a bit smaller and work at Williamsburg, Tuckahoe, Swanson, and HB Woodlawn. If necessary, orange nets can be used on the large goal frames by stringing the net inside the frame and velcroing it to the back of the frame.
Gunston/Wakefield Stadium
Gunston nets, flags (without sharp tips) and foam cones for the flags are stored in an equipment box at Gunston. The box is chained to the fence by the grass field at the street side of the field. Contact the ATSC Executive Director to get the lock combination. Do NOT use metal-tipped flags at Gunston or Wakefield Stadium; put the flags into the foam cones. Do NOT use stakes on the nets at Gunston or Wakefield Stadium; use Velcro to secure the back of the net to the frame. Wakefield Stadium flags and cones are stored in the concession stand near entrance to stadium.

Inclement Weather Procedure for Games
From the ATSC Coach and Manager Manual 2003-2004
League-wide Rainouts - In the event of area-wide inclement weather or poor field conditions, the league can declare a "league-wide rainout," which means all games are canceled and are re-scheduled by the league on one of the rain-out make-up dates at the end of the season. Notice of a league-wide rainout can be found on the league web sites and hotlines (see below). This almost never happens.
Individual or Club-wide Cancellations - Clubs may also cancel or relocate individual games. In
