WHAT IS A SOCCER REFEREE?

A soccer referee is a neutral interpreter of the guidelines, known as the Laws of the Game, for fair safe play. Referees should not be intimidated, shouted at, or taunted at by players, coaches or parents. Please see the new Zero Tolerance Policy adopted by MSC. Referees, like soccer players need the opportunity to develop their skills in a positive manner. We encourage everyone to respect and accept the referees opinion and treat them courteously. REMEMBER MANY REFEREES ARE CHILDREN, ONE OF WHOM COULD BE YOUR OWN SOMEDAY!

Referee Duties
MSC Referee Guidelines 2004

Equipment:   
Yellow shirt (long or short sleeve), Solid black shorts, black socks with white stripes, black cleats, 2004 referee patch. Also, flags, whistle, watch, and card set. Shirt tucked in and socks pulled up, no visible jewelry

Game assignments:
I will try to make sure everyone gets a fair amount of work this season, although not everyone will get the same # of games.

If you want to start doing centers for games let me know and we can start you on the small field rec games, then to travel.

If you have to cancel an assignment let me know as soon as possible. Do not contact another ref and ask them to take your place.

Rec program:
Games must start on time. Arrive 15-20 minutes before game time. All players need shinguards and socks cover shinguards. Small fields- 30 minute halves, no slide tackling and no pk's. Large fields- 35 minute halves. Pay for rec- small field center $10.00, Large field center $12.50, lines $7.50.

Travel:
Be ready at field 20-30 minutes before game time. U-9 to U-12 size 4 ball, age U-13 and up size 5. Check in team, equipment, passes and roster. Make sure pictures match. Coaches must have passes, no one is allowed on team side of field without a pass.
