Being a Good Teammate
One of the most rewarding aspects of sports is sharing the experience with your teammates. The camaraderie, fun, and mutual satisfaction of helping one another to accomplish their goals are irreplaceable. In many ways, being on a team can be one of the best ways for young players to prepare themselves for the communities that will be part of their lives in later years.
Learning to be a good teammate is as important as learning to be a good player. Softball is a team sport and while star players can have a large impact on the outcome of a game, no one player can get it done by herself.
So, what is a good teammate? In short, it is a player whose attitude and actions are always motivated by what is good for the team and her fellow players. A good teammate sets an example with her own behavior. Without players putting the team above themselves, no team will ever ever achieve what they set out to accomplish.
A good teammate doesn't do things that will hurt the team. She shows up at practice and games—on time. She gives an all-out effort on the field. She accepts responsibility for her mistakes and supports other players when they make theirs. She doesn't scapegoat another player or coach—ever. She contributes to a positive attitude and atmosphere. She cooperates with the coaches and tries to make their job easier. She keeps her head in the game on the field and on the bench and helps fellow players to do the same.
Attitude Determines Altitude
