Welcome to Marlton Rec Council Girls Field Hockey
Junior League Update: No Monday practices as of 10/6/08. Wednesday practice will begin at 6-7pm @Cherokee HS.
Parents & Girls
We will have a limited amount of daylite available during the month of September. We have a limited amount of coaches available also. What we will do is the following:
- Junior League Practices (3rd-5th Grades) Mondays & Wednesdays 7pm until dark Cherokee High School Fresham Field Hockey Field
- Senior League Practices (6th-8th Grades) Tuesdays & Thursdays 7pm until dark Cherokee High School Fresham Field Hockey Field
Girls will arrive for practice for all teams. You will head to the Freshman field hockey field where there will be a list of teams with the associated girls last names. All girls will practice together for consistency and game situational play. This will allow us to make certain that the girls are all learning the same way and play the game the same way. Everyone will do skills drills together then we will break out the teams for small scrimages against each other to help the girls learn how to play the game. Typically we lose daylite the first week of October. I appreciate your patience.

Stick Starz (USA Field Hockey) Ages 8-11 USA Field Hockey is proud to present an EXCITING opportunity for athletes ages 8-11 in New Jersey. Designed specifically for girls ages 8-11, StickStarz introduces young players to the game of field hockey while building a foundation of solid skills. StickStarz consists of eight, 1 ½ hour sessions with 45 minutes dedicated to skill development and 45 minutes dedicated to fun games, which are designed to enhance and reinforce the skill development. StickStarz is an Olympic Development program that serves as the feeder system directly into the already nationally recognized and successful Futures Program. State of New Jersey - Protective Eyewear Mandate:
Effective 8/3/06, All Athletes who wear corrective eyeglasses while participating in Girl’s Lacrosse, Basketball, Field Hockey, Soccer, Baseball and Softball shall be required to wear protective eyewear that meets the Frame Standard (ASTM F803) and the Lens Standard (ANSI Z87.1). Athletes will not be allowed to practice and / or play in non protective eyewear. This policy is being enacted due to an Act C.5:18-1 which requires protective eyewear for certain children participating in sports. About the MRC Girls Field Hockey Program
We play other MRC teams but also other towns such as Southampton Twp, Indian Mills, Florence & Pemberton.
Juniors (entering 3rd-5th grade in the fall) play 7 on 7 including goalie
Seniors play 11 on 11 including goalie(entering 6th-8th grade in the fall)
Skills Drills (Mid-August ) will be held 1x per week at night at Cherokee High School. Practices will be held 2x's per week at the Evesham Middle schools and Cherokee High School Freshman field hockey field. Check the "CALENDAR" tab often for updates
All away games will be held at Southampton Twp, Indian Mills, Florence & Pemberton. Our Home Field will be DeMasi & Marlton Middle for the Junior league. Junior games are played on Saturday. The seniors Home Field will be at Cherokee High School & Marlton Middle School. Seniors play on Sunday afternoons.
Team Shirts and Socks will be provided for the girls. Colored Mouthguards (without strap), shinguards and soccer cleats are mandatory in order to practice and play. They are the responsibility of each girl. Field Hockey sticks are available for use during the season.
Our mission is to offer a program that will enable our young ladies to develop their understanding, skill set and game strategy for field hockey in order to excel in this sport in a fun and competitive manner.

It's time to start voicing our opinions regarding the lack of field hockey fields and the current field conditions that Evesham Township has set aside for recreation programs. Please register any and all complaints to www.twp.evesham.nj.us click on Township and then click on Contact. But most importantly, get out and VOTE!
Who is Marlton Rec Council?
The Marlton Rec Council is a NON-PROFIT organization comprised of 40-50 active parents who attend general meetings and commissioners meetings to improve the accessibility and administer sports to all Evesham Township children from K-12. There are @5,000 children involved in Marlton Rec Council sports. The MRC sports registration fees pay for the sport insurance, administration, township/educational facility field maintenance, referees and player uniforms.
We need to increase the number of active parents within the Marlton Rec Council. Your time = 1 meeting the 1st Thursday of every month for 1-1/2 hrs. Get to understand the challenges and offer up solutions to address Evesham Township Council to work to improve accessibility to fields and usage of township property.
Numbers matter to Evesham Town Council. There are 5,000 children that participate in MRC sports each year. I hear at least 100 to 150 subtle complaints about the lack of a true sports facility each year. To be a part of the solution, attend regularly scheduled MRC and Evesham Township meetings.
Township residents who's children participate in MRC programs must show up at the Evesham Township Council meetings and have your voice heard. The MRC executive board already attends these meetings. They shouldn't be the only ones. Visit the township website for meeting dates at:

Vote Vote Vote. We must make it known. Every family with a child in any MRC program needs to vote in every election. It doesn't matter how you vote, as long as we are all active voters. Active voters get the attention of the town council.
Important dates in the future of the MRC
1st Thursday of every month 8:30 PM - MRC General Meeting Learn about upcoming MRC events and operations. Pose questions and present ideas with regards to operations of our Non-Profit organization and involvement with Evesham Township. Meetings are held at the MRC Building-15 Oak Ave, Marlton.

What you Need for Skills Drills, Practices & Games
You must have the following pieces of equipment in order to play in the MRC Girls Field Hockey program.
1. Mouthguard
2. Shin guards (soccer)
3. Cleats (soccer)
We have some extra field hockey sticks for use during the season. You must sign out the stick and return the stick at the end of the season. If you do not return the stick, a nominal fee will be due.
