MPSC-Patriots: Group Info

 Red

The Red group consists of most 8&under swimmers, brand new swimmers (fresh from lessons) regardless of age, and 9-14 year olds who are not yet strong enough (stroke/endurance wise) for the higher level practices

Minimum requirement is for a swimmer to be able to swim at least one length of the pool without stopping in freestyle (front crawl) and backstroke.

Practices focus on a combination of stoke technique and acquisition and swimmer development. Endurance sets for this group rarely go past sets of 200 meters. Diving and flip turns are taught and encouraged. Technique is stressed most highly. At the same time, this is a low stress group, gives swimmers a taste of what they need to want/work for but is not overwhelming for the bulk of the children. Current swimmers age from 5 to 13 years

 White-Silver

The White-Silver group is the basic age-group group. Right now, White-Silver I and White-Silver II are the same groups, but due to group size must be split.  Swimmers aged 8-14 who are comfortable in the water and may have 1-5 years of competitive experience but are still at an early developmental stage. Skill acquisition, stroke technique and endurance are stressed.  Introduction to racing strategies. Introduction to goal setting. Nutrition recommendations are passed.  Sets will range from 500 meters for warm-ups to repeat sets of 200 meters. Technique is stressed highly as it is the building block for continuing up the ladder of competitive success.

Dryland is introduced at this level. Dryland is 15-30 minutes of basic body weight exercises to include push-ups, sit-ups, running, jumping jacks, lunges, squats, etc. Dryland builds strength and compliments the swimming program. Swimmers should arrive at practice with swim suits on and shorts/sweats and sneakers for dryland. Most of the time, if it is not raining/snowing, dryland training will be done on the track -- swimmers should have jackets/gloves during winter season
