MPRA 2013/14 Basketball Season Info

***** COACHES MEETING *****

We will have a mandatory coaches meeting on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 3pm at the MCC. Topics to be discussed are our recent changes to our rules and a presentation from the Officials of NABOA. The New Rules and Practice schedules are posted in the Handouts section.

MPRA Basketball Partners with Madison Academy

This basketball season MPRA and Madison Academy recreation leagues will join forces.  While both leagues will build their own teams, the game schedule will mix MPRA and MA teams against one another.  This is beneficial for both leagues and we hope to build a strong relationship.  Most MPRA games will be at the typical MPRA sites, but some games will be held at Madison Academy.  Please represent MPRA with class and enjoy the fantastic basketball facilities at MA.

Teams

The drafts have been completed and teams are formed.  Practices have started.

Coaches

ALL head coaches are required to complete a background check.  This can be started on the SportsSignup site located at https://mprasports.sportssignup.com

There will be a mandatory coaches meeting scheduled very soon.  Watch for details.

Basketball Registration is Closed

Regular registration ended on Oct 19th.  Late registrations will only be accepted on an as needed basis, and will include an additional fee of $25.  If you need to register late, just send an email to MPRABasketball@gmail.com with the following information for the player:  Name, Age, Date of birth, Gender, Grade, School, and Address.

MPRA introduces Recreation Plus (Rec+) basketball

MPRA is pleased to offer Recreation Plus (Rec+) for those players wishing to play in a more competitive basketball league.  This program will serve as an alternative option to the normal recreation league.  There will only be one team per grade level for boys and girls in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, with an additional 7th grade girls’ team.  Players will have to register as normal with MPRA and then attend tryouts for the Rec+ teams.  Those players not selected to a Rec+ team will play in the normal MPRA recreational league.  Additional fees and some travel will be required for Rec+.

2013/14 MPRA Basketball Info

Registration for the upcoming season will begin in September.  The registration fee is about $100, and the purchase of a uniform is required (usually about $40).

To play at MPRA, the child must reside in one of these elementary school zones:  Harvest, Monrovia, Legacy, or Endeavor.

Typically, practices will begin around the 1st week of November, and games will start around the 1st week of December.  Each team will have 2 or 3 basketball related events per week, but nothing on Wednesdays or Sundays.  The regular season ends in February, with a post-season tournament to follow.  Practices and games are held at several locations in the Monrovia/Harvest area, including the Monrovia Community Center (MCC) and the local elementary schools.  Unfortunately, some teams are required to travel to other Madison county sites for games.

The league is run by the MPRA Basketball Board, which is under the MPRA organization.  All coaches, assistant coaches, and board members are volunteers.
