Mount Anthony falls to Danbury
The Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling team went back and forth against Danbury on Monday, and the match came down to the final bout where Alex Cross, at 220 pounds, was pinned by the Hatters’ Eddie Garcia and the Patriots lost their first dual meet in three seasons, 33-26.

"They just outwrestled us and I think they cared more," said MAU coach Scott Legacy. "It was a great high school dual meet - the place was full and loud and the atmosphere was great."

Starting at 285, Mount Anthony held a 20-12 lead after Tyler White’s tech fall of Anthony Cote at 145 pounds. But the next three weight classes swung the match Danbury’s way. Brandon Marcoux-Schaefer and Juan Garcia were tied at 2 in the third period, but a takedown and near fall late gave Garcia a 7-2 win.

At 160, Austin Price fell 10-3 and Tyler Mattison was pinned by Wesley Spears at 170 to give Danbury the lead, 24-20. Cameron Foucher lost in overtime to Will Jack at 182 and Spencer Foucher won by injury default at 195.

"I hope we can take something from this loss," Legacy said. "Maybe it will spur them down the road."
