The alpine ski team participates in the Surburban East Conference. In addition to Mounds View, the conference includes Cretin Derham-Hall, Forest Lake, Hastings, Park Cottage Grove, Roseville, Stillwater, White Bear Lake and Woodbury. Each year the team consists of students who are experienced racers, accomplished skiers and a few who have never skied before. All are welcome.

Congrats to Mike Kosiak
2008/2009 MV Alpine captain, Mike Kosiak, pole vaulted to 3rd place in the Boys Track & Field State Meet on Sat., June 6th at Hamline University. Mike recorded a vault of 14'3" and was the lone mustang at the State Meet. Congratulations Mike!

The team has the following fundraisers scheduled:
May 8-11 -- Linder's
(customers can bring in an invitation which will give the team 15% of their purchase)
May 21, 3-9 pm -- Cub Foods in White Bear
(bagging groceries and help carry bags to cars)
June 3, 5 pm -- Twins Game at the dome (pass out promotionals)
August 11, 5 pm -- Twins Game at the dome (pass out promotionals)
November 25, 2:30 - 10 pm -- Kowalski's in White Bear
(bagging groceries and help carry bags to cars)
Information on signing up for shifts will be forthcoming.

Volunteer Opportunities for the 2008/2009 Season
Currently, there are three open positions for next year.
> Fundraising - Coordinate fundraising for the upcoming season (identify fundraising opportunities and coordinate with team and parents). This is a crucial position, which helps alleviate the financial burden for every family. Team expenses covered by the booster club are paid with money generated by fundraising. Any shortfalls are made up with contributions from every family.
> Fire pit and tent - coordinate tent and fire pit for invitational and section meets and fire pit for conference meets
> Cookies, cider and hot chocolate - coordinate cookie assignments, prepare and transport cider/hot chocolate to ski meets

Farewell to the Class of 2009
Best wishes and thanks to the class of 2009:
Emma Burt, Anna Mallory, Emily Nelson, Mike Kosiak, Brian Peterson and Shane Wehlage. Your leadership, dedication and positive attitude will be greatly missed.
In addition, thanks to the parents of these seniors for all your hard work and support throughout the years.

2008/2009 Season Highlights
VARSITY
The Mounds View boys placed fourth in the conference with a 5-3 record. Mike Kosiak and Zarek Boutaghou received All Conference honors (ranking 5th and 19th, respecively). Their point totals for the season were 63 and 39, respectively. Brian Peterson received honorable mention with 37 points and ranking 24th in the conference. Season point totals for the remaining skiers are Shane Wehlage (25), Robert Ervasti (20), Kevin Lahr (10), Joel Ziolkowski (10), Luke Phillippi (5), Chris Meader (4), Tommy Schrankler (2) and Jack Caughey (1).
The girls alpine ski team finished in sixth place in the Suburban East Conference with a 3-5 record. Emma Burt received All Conference honors and Emily Nelson received honorable mention. Their point totals for the season were 39 and 34, respectively. Their overall rank in the conference was 19th and 28th, respectively. Season point totals for the remaining skiers are Rachel Pilgrim (23), Saphia Boutaghou (18), Sarah Hauck (8), Katie MacKay (5), Lizzy Narigon (4), Teddi Scheele (4), Anna Mallory (2) and Mai Lubega (1).
JR. VARSITY
The boys and girls finished with a 5-3 conference record.

For Sale: Hart Mini Skis
The MV Alpine Booster Club is selling Hart mini skis for $40 each. These skis were purchased by the Booster Club several years ago but barely used. There are now 8 pairs remaining. Equipment
For new racers, detailed below are required, recommended and optional equipments needs.
Required: Skis, boots, poles and bindings, ski helmet and goggles.
Recommended: Long underwear, gloves, jacket, ski pants, ski socks, neck gator, boot bag, ski bag. Also, dress in layers.
Optional: Race suit,basher guard for helmet, pole guards and shin guards.
