Moore wrestled in the North Oldham Mustang Classic this week and finally took home a 1st place tournament trophy. "I've looked extensively into the history of Moore Wrestling and to my knowledge this is the first ever tournament that we have won" said Coach Thomas. 8 out of 10 Moore wrestlers placed to help bring home the gold. "It feels great and these kids have earned it. We gave St. X everything they wanted on Wednesday and then came out here with that same intensity and won this whole thing. No better way to cap off the regular season and head into regionals" stated Thomas. Moore placed ahead of Seneca, Oldham County, North Hardin, and South Oldham who are all very good wrestling programs. Moore will wrestle in the 4th Region Tournament Saturday at Hoops. "I've got 5 seniors who have been working hard since their freshmen year, some of them since middle school. They will remember this forever. It's not over yet though. Now we got to get kids to state and accomplish our next big program goal.. state placers" said Coach Thomas.

- MOORE TAKES 4th AT COUNTY TOURNAMENT
Moore topped its previous year finish of 5th with a 4th place finish in this years county tournament. "We were really aiming at finishing top 3 but we still improved on last years performance which is good" said Coach Mike Thomas. "I'm never fully satisfied but I keep reminding myself where we were just 5 or 6 years ago and where we are today. We have got to be proud of those accomplishments". Moore had two County champs for the first time in years. Both Zack Michael(125) and James Schneider (160) left with gold. "We were pretty confident that James was going to go in there and take home a championship. We knew Zack had the ability to win his class but it was going to be tough. He pulled through and wrestled really good beating two wrestlers who had previously beaten him on his way to winning the championship" stated Thomas. Ethan Dunn (171) finished 2nd, Derek Farley (285) finished 4th, Steven Willbanks (145) finished 5th, and John Leal (112) and Nick Vincent (135) both finished 6th. "We look forward to this tournament every year. This is to see who the best in Louisville is and we made a good showing".

- CONDITIONING PROGRAM IS VERY HARD!!
NICK TIRE
Junior Nick Vincent does tire flips with a tire that weighs around 250lbs.

Six weeks before the start of the season wrestling conditioning begins. During wrestling conditioning wrestlers bodies are pushed to the limit in order to break them down and rebuild them stronger, faster, hungrier, and tougher then ever. Because of the difficulty of conditioning only returning wrestlers participate. "I don't want and I don't let rookies come to conditioning. This stuff is way too hard and if they have never stepped foot on the mat then they have this perception that this is wrestling" said Coach Thomas. "When I did let rookies come to conditioning, they would quit before they ever stepped foot on the mat. That hurts me because some of them, I never get to see the wrestling ability they might have. These kids that have been through a season of wrestling understand how tough the sport is and they know that this type of work is neccessary to be the best". Conditioning is also optional for returning 8th graders. "I offer it to returning 8th graders because its their last year of middle school wrestling. All of my 8th graders have participated so far. They know its their last year to shine and then its back to the bottom as a freshmen" said Thomas.

We interviewed Nick Vincent, a junior 5th year wrestler, about this years conditioning program.

How hard is this years conditioning program?
The program is very hard and not everyone can do it. You have to be willing to push yourself.

What type of stuff do you do during conditioning?
We do alot of things. One of the things that we do is flip these 200 pound tires back and forth. We do alot of work with the kettlebells and we run the hill alot also.

What is unique about Moore conditioning?
Because unlike other schools that just run around the track or go to the weight room, we do more things that focus in on the whole body. After a day of this you feel it everywhere.

What is the advantage of Moore conditioning?
It more so prepares you for wrestling. You are ready to go three periods and then some overtime.

How do you think the conditioning this year will positively affect your wrestling?
It will get me stronger then my opponent because he was doing nothing and I was doing all this.

What other thoughts do you have on Moore conditioning?
The only other thoughts that I have is that it's something that is really hard but it's also something that I think you have to do to make yourself better.
